I heard this happens to less than 6% of people where baby tooth is not replaced by a permanent one. In my case it is the lower premolar.

I'm wondering should I get it removed and replaced with an artificial tooth?

that is the most common site, in my 20+ years of dentistry the tooth is kept until it loosens. Then a bridge or implant can be done.
