Hi all.
I have a situation here.
I have been a stay at home mom for seven years now. Every year we say one more year. Then we were blessed with an inheritance that was in small monthly increments so I could stay home. This ends in January 08. Now I have raging fibro and know I will never work again. I would call in sick so much I could never stand. Was a dental assistane.
ANyway I don't qualify for disability b/c haven;t worked in over 5 years. And I need to know what my husband has to make for me to be eligible for ssi. In 08 we are big trouble. We have a mortage and everything. Never counted on this.
Any advise anyone?????????
What are the rules to be eligible for ssi

Thank you
Deena

Deena, I'll sure it would be different in each state. I've heard there is no way you can get it for FM unless you hire a lawyer. My husband and I are going to have to sell our home and down size, I haven't worked in years but he is having medical problems now, not sure how much longer he can work full time. His Dad gave us some land and with the processes from selling our home we are buying a new manufacture home and will be out of debt. He gets a small military pension so I'm going to try for ssi and we shall be fine. I also never had a career, I raise two wonderful kids both graduated from college. We shall get credit for that!
My son in is Law School so I will get legal advice for free. Not sure if he can be my lawyer since there may be a conflict of interest. I can not longer even shop without using a scooter, between the pain and exhaustion I just can't walk very far.
Anyway maybe you can find out the information on-line? I'm sure they have a web site. I call and the lady I spoke to was very nice, at this point I don't qualified since my husband makes to much money, but that will change in the future. She is going ahead and mailing me all the paper work.

Hi Deena,

I'm in the same boat as you, many years ago my Doctor diagnosed me with Fibro, then a few days ago my Rheumatologist confirmed the diagnosis. I have been a stay at home mom since my first child was born 13yrs later I tried my hand at working outside the home, well this didnt work to well, and back then I didn't know I had fibro, just knew I felt like crap and hurt. I stopped working and now I stay at home, and 2yrs ago I started homeschooling my children.

I have no idea if I can even get disability. I get so outraged when I hear of people who have been on disability all their lives and there is nothing wrong with them, I know of people who are on it for anxiety!!! I also have anxiety but never even thought of disability until I realized once the kids are gone there will be no way I'd be able to go back to work!!!

Hope
