Hi, just wondered. I have been told by my neuro as well as my general practitioner that MS people should NOT have the flu shot. Tonight, I was told by the Rebif nurse that studies show that the little bit of "flu" you get from the shot,is a whole lot easier on the body than if you get the Flu itself. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Has anyone been told to GET the flu shot? Has anyone else been told NOT to?
thanks..

I've always been told to get it but i don't;)
Last year I got a tetnus shot and it caused lhermitte's sign. My neuro thought it very possible that vaccinations could cause symptoms but of course she never advise NOT to get vaccinations...

Ha! I was told to definitely get the flu shot and I do.
3 years ago I had the flu (no shot) and I wanted to die.

Thanks, both of you. I appreciate hearing what you had to say. Im kind of on the fence about this. Let me ask this; When you got the flu shot, did you have any relapsing symptoms?

I had no symptoms from the flu shot at all. I am getting this year's shot next week.
Good luck with your decision.:)

Thank you. Im going to be looking into it next week as well. I have an appt with my general practioner, Im going to find out if they give it (probably) and his opinion on it. My Neuro isnt budging, he is still saying Dont do it...but then he doesnt have MS, or 3 stepchildren who are sick all winter long!
thanks again.

I have got a flu shot for 5 years prior to dx. No symptoms or problems. This year came my dx. Neuro and MS specialist say NO SHOT. I'm bummed. To me it seems that getting the flu would be worse for people like us. Doctors reasoning - Let your immune system rest. Don't overload with outside things ie: flu shot, allergy shots, to many supplements, etc. Don't know if I agree but it is what my professionals have said.

Thats interesting. I have never gotten a flu shot, so I dont know what to expect. However, I spoke to my Neuro, and MS specialist day, they both said NO FLU SHOT for the exact same reason. Yup, I would think the flu would be worse than anything the shot could do to me, but they say getting the flu is only 50-50,and giving myself the flu shot is murder on the immune system. Guess what? Im not going to get it..why take chances?
Thanks though, its nice to hear that other docs are agreeing with mine!

I don't get the flu shots....
My M.S. came suspiciously close to a series of Hepatitis vaccines I was forced to get for my job. My son came down with autism suspiciously close to his 18 month vaccines. I'll take my chances with the flu.

Thats terrible. I was asked, sevearl times If I had had any vacines when they were trying to diagnose me. I knew that certain vaccines were bad, but to be forced to get one, and then have that happen...horrible.
I am sorry about your son, too. Autism is a tough one, I have a friend whos' son is 2 and was just diagnosed with it. I know for sure now, im skipping the flu shot.
Thanks for sharing, and my prayers are with you.
