Just to let all of you know, tonight was very important to me. I had the nurse come to my house from Rebif, who instructed me on my first shot and how to give them to myself. I did it. I actually gave myself the first shot! Its been about 3 hours now, and so far, so good. No injection site reaction, no flu like symptoms! Im very excited. I learned how to use the autoinjector, as well as just the syringe...and only used the syringe on my tummy...it was no where near as hard as it seemed, although the idea of it made me queasy, the actual doing it, wasnt so bad!
Rebif gave me all sorts of goodies, travel bags, planners, all sorts of helpful things to read and watch (DVD"S). Im pretty well stocked on reading material between Serano (the manufacturer of Rebif) and the National MS socieity...
Maybe tomorrow I can focus on school. Heaven knows I havent really been able to think about much besides this home visit for a week. Its over though, and Im feeling much better about the whole thing..
I also learned tonight, that Avonex and Rebif, are EXACTLY the same drug. The only diference is Avonex is sub muscular, and Rebif, is only subcutaneous. Truthfully, I couldnt imagine injecting this into my muscle!
TO everyone who wrote me good luck, thanks! I appreciate it...
regards
Nikki:wave:

THANKS!!! I wanted to post about it, since so many people are talking bout which drug to choose, etc right now. I also want to say for the record, that 12 hours later, I had no flu like symptoms, minor, VERY minor, muscle aches and during the night, I woke up sweating my butt offf, but as soon as I went back to sleep and woke up this morning, I feel fine! SO, anyone who is considering Rebif, and is afraid of the "flu like symptoms" they adverstise might happen....it didnt really happen to me, and what did happen was nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Way to go on your first night! Congrats. I remember how scary my first shot was. I actually had to have my mom count to 3 on the phone until I hit the button on the injector. Now it is a piece of cake. Trust me, it does get easier. I even have my fiancee give them to me every couple of months just so he remembers how to load the injector and all. You never know if you will need someone to give you your shot sometime.
Again congrats on your first night.

Jill :)

Hi, its Melissa. Sorry I haven't had a chance to talk to you but I am sooo proud of you and the first night on Rebif. :) I seriously was reading your posting with tears of joy that things worked out. I did take the Intra muscular Avonex that you mentioned and it was no picnic, Rebif is better without a doubt.:bouncing:

For the first couple months of DX I read everything too. If you find anything interested please share. Again , I wanted to let you know that i am soo proud of you and the accomplishment. You did it . You over came the biggest hurdle. You took charge and are ready to move ahead in oyur personal strides. BIG CONGRATS....

I also wanted to comment on what you said about support. I find the people here so supportive. I would love to personally thank everyone for the courage, strength and guidance they give the Newbies all the way up to the Senior Members. Just to have someone to talk to or read about gives the rest of the us the desire to get better, manage our illness and share experiences ; good or bad to educate and help...

Take care and talk to you soon:wave:

Hello friend, may I call you friend? You certainly seem like one! Melissa- I appreciate your comments and congrats. No one understands better than one who has been there. I actually feel better today, mentally. Physically, I am alittle weak, but nothing too bad. Im not really looking forward to doing this again Thursday night, but at least now I know I can do it! That, feels good.
Thanks so much for the positive energy your post conveys. Your not kidding, the support that is on this board is overwhelming! And, appreciated!
I will talk to you soon., OK?
Nikki
