I had my first Rheumy appt today. He said my first Dr diagnosed me correctly that I do have Fibro and also Trochanteric Bursitis. He did the tender point tests and some other things, said both arms and legs are double jointed and that is very common in people with fibro! I never knew I was double jointed!
He did press on particular spot in my leg and OOWWW did it hurt and is still hurting horribly!!! He said that is my bursitis.
He sent me for bloodwork for my hands(a non related fibro problem) and Xray of my Spine and pelvis.
He didn't give me anything for pain and I don't think this dr ever will. I got that impression from the visit. He did prescribe me Trazodone and I NEVER take a medication before looking it up....and this one is making me quite nervous! Its only 50mgs and I think its 1/2 a pill. Cant really read his writing.
I'm afraid of the adverse reactions :( So anyone that is taking this if they can shed any light for me I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Hope

He probably prescribed it for sleep. Trazodone is actually an Antidepressant but only is effective for depression at 300mgs. Anything below that they prescribe it for sleep. I was on Traz for around 10 or 11 yrs. My normal dose was 50 mgs at bedtime, but I was allowed to take as much as 300mgs if I couldn't sleep. I finally got off of it about 5months ago. (took me a couple of months to learn to go to sleep without it)
I had no side affects other than weight gain ( I am also going through menopause so who knows) I started an exercise program and am now off all pain meds and muscle relaxers. I do take Cymbalta which helps with pain management and the depression.
Just make sure that you take it at bedtime, and have something to eat with it. I am not sure how you will react, but it would KNOCK me out in 20 minutes.

Thanks for your input :)
I came across a message board for this medication, and all I read were horror stories of this drug :( I like to find out as much as possible before taking a new medication. I did read most everyone on that board had weight gain from this pill. That to me is not a horrible side effect, but some of the other ones are scary.
I think I will talk to my pharmacist before I get this prescription filled.

I too have taken it and occasionally still do on weekends. I was prescribed it for the sleep problems I am experiencing with fibro. I personally got off due to the groggy morning feeling I have and not being able to get out of bed, hence the reason to only take it on weekends now. If during the week I get little sleep, I need to get something on the weekend. I did not experience any other side effects though, then not having the ability to get up for a "long" time. Oops....missed the biggy....weight gain..... As bad as the weight was though...the sleep did make a huge difference.

Well I took my first pill last night, he prescribed 1/2 a pill before bedtime (25mgs) I wasn't knocked out, but I didn't have as much trouble falling asleep as I usually do.
Should I worry about weight gain on that low of a dosage? I don't know when or if he will have me take the whole 50mg.

All of us are different when it comes to AD's and weight gain. I had been on Traz for 10 -11 yrs and my weight gain was slow. Kind of snuck up on me. When I started on it I weighed 130lbs. When I hit 171lbs I knew I had to do something. Remember I was entering and still in menopause too.( LOVE those hot flashes!) So I weaned myself off of it, and started to exercise, and eat healthy. It's been a struggle. Took of 25lbs, put on a few, so total off now is 21lbs. Yes I am still working on it.
I was on 50mgs as I told you, but could take up to 300mgs if I was having problems sleeping. Your Dr. may up your dosage to help you sleep. You will have to weigh the pros and cons yourself. Sleep is a must for fibro. Weight gain is likely on AD's. Maybe eating healthy, and exercising will keep the weight gain at bay???????
Hang in there.
