I was in a car accident about two months ago. I was driving and I think blacked out from taking too much meds (for bipolar) and floored the car up to 70mph and flipped the car. There was a large head impact on the front windsheild and was then thrown head first out the back window 35 feet from the car onto the road and then slid into a feild. Nobody knows how I lived and I didn't even break anything. The only thing was I of course had severe head trama and was in a coma for over 2 days which they didn't think I would come out of but I obviously did. There are four days that I don't remember and don't remember the accident.
I hadn't noticed much from the head trauma until recently. I was at my sisters and a friend came over and I introduced myself and she told me I've known her for 6 years but to me it was the first time I saw her. After that I thought through my memories and in the past 6 years there are two one year periods that don't exist to me anymore. Then I started having this random eye movement where when I would change my focus they move back and forth very fast for a half second. I read it can be from brain lesions from head trauma. It seems to be getting more and more frequent every day.
My question is can unnoticed lesions grow bigger after an accident? I want to get it checked out but I am back at home after the accident and with no job or money. I asked my parents to take me but you have to be near death for them to do anything about it. Not really sure what to do but if you could give some advise as to what to do or how to convince them that would be great.
Thanks for reading and any help.

Also just remembered (short term seems to be getting worse too) that I had to have landed head first onto the road as my legs were fine but I had scalp missing on the back of my head and still have pebbles under the skin. So, I first hit the front of my head, then the top, and then the back in probably 10 seconds.

Just how thoroughly were you checked out while at the ER?i am sure you do not recall that part but you should obtain ALL and any medical records from that hospital stay, including all tests that were done and all medical doc notes from the ER and all nursing/doc notesd that were kept on you as these would contain alot of info on the initial hit into the er and all that was done by the docs or trauma team, depending on where you were taken post accident for treatment.i know from experience that while in the ER they generally do an all over body CT(in your particular case because the the mechanism of injury was pretty severe.they will not usually do an MRI in the ER just because they don't know if you have any metal in your body which would react qwhile you would be in that MRI machine,so they just go with the standard CT instead.tho they may have done one on your brain during your stay once they were able to determine whether or not it was safe to do so.these are the test results you needjust to see what was possibly found.if they never ever did an MRI on your brin, you most definitely need one now.this would be rather crucial considering the post trauma you suffered and your increasing memory and any other possible bneuro symptoms you may be having.
do you see a neurologist at all,or in the past?if not, this would really be a good idea.you need to be re evaluated at this time.some brain injurieswill not always show themselves til alot of time has passed and certain things may trigger the symptoms.did you have any bleeding into your brain anywhere?
any post head trauma victim that starts developing any symptoms after this long post accident really has to be re evaled.you just need to make sure that there is nothing that was missed before that is showing itself now.brain injuries are just really strang type of injuries to have to deal with.my youngest son suffered pretty severe head trauma two augusts ago while he was sitting on his so called freinds traunk of his car?he decided it would be really flippin funny to drive away with my son sitting on the trunk.well while he turned a sharp corner out of the alley and onto the actual street,my son of course, flew off and landed directly on his head, right at the back.he had all the classic severe head trauma synptoms almost immediately after he woke up after about two minutes of being unconcious.i knew it ws bad as i had been a medic for about fourteen years at thet time.he ended up with a double skull fracture at the occipital portion of his skull, and also a wonderful brain bleed into the frontal lobe of his brain, along with a very severe concussion,he was in a coma and on a vent for a few days, then went thru those various stages of coma that i am sure you went thru too.he has some memeory impairments but luckily got most things back again.but this also acffected his executive thinking process, the decision making part of his brain?that was fun.thats better now tho too.
he still will have "moments' but he is also bi polar III so some of what he is experiencing, well we just never know for sure if it is related to the bi polar or the post brain injury,or even his meds.i am sure with your bi polar, this is kind of the same for you too?
but at any rate, you need to btain ALL of those medical records from the hospital mostly just so you have the full records of this event and also just to actually see what was shown on any testing.hopefully,at some point, they actually DID do an MRI with contrast on your brain.if they did not,you really DO need to get one.just speak with your parents about your concerns.if there is any chance that something could have been missed while you were in that hospital,it needs to be evaluated to see if saomething within the brain may be causeing these symptoms.i just cannot imagine a parent not acting on this when you consider what your body went thru with that accident, honestly, after seeing more accident trauma than i cared to all those years and considering what your body took on,i too am amazed that you are not only still here but did not actually suffer and sort of broken bones.god was most definitely with you that night.your level of recovery really is that rare and amazing when looking at what you went thru.
at the very least, you need to see your primary and discuss all of this with him or her to see what they think and go from there.good luck and please keep us posted on how you are doing, marcia

Hey I just signed up to this in search of support for head trauma victims from automobile accidents. Sounds stupid but it could help with support and stuff to know that people out there are going through the same stuff you are, since really the only people you do talk to are doctors and the only thing they have to go by are their books and education. They really haven't been through it. I was in a car accident in 2002 and Im STILL having problems. I think they are worse now than right after the accident. My memory is the worst, short term memory loss. I got most of it back, but I have trouble with college and simple tasks. When you were in the hospital, did they even do any tests on you? Like an MRI, EEG, CAT scan? There is a new, well its not new, but new enough that its not available to most hospitals and practitioners, and its not covered through most insurances (I don't think but Im not 100% sure), its called SPECT. What I would do if I were you is find out if you had these tests done, which im sure you did because you can't be released unless you had those done. But figure out what they found, if anything abnormal or not. You should go see a neurologist. When you got out, did you even need Occupational or Physical therapy? I don't want to scare you but you might get more problems as time passes, especially with your memory. You should do some research online if you can. Head injurys are really serious even if you feel fine and the doctors says you didn't have any brain damage or anything like that. I never thought I would have problems like I do now from my accident, or that they would last this long. I just thought that it would get better over time. I've never really had the appropriate treatment or sources because the doctors here are so stupid. You should also go see a speech therapist, they do cognitive skills and memory stuff. I noticed you posted your message a couple months ago, I hope you get this message. Your parents should take this really seriously. You might look fine, but really not. I;m not saying that your not, its just you said things are popping up now and you need to be taken seriously and looked at because it could result in something serious and could affect you later. Let me know if you get this or if you have any questions. I know a lot about it. I been through a lot of it and done a lot it. I hope you get your answers.
