So again, my story, numb right hand for 3 months...Went through EMG, normal, Cervical MRI normal, bloodwork normal...Got brain MRI...Abnormal. 5 lesions. Had an evoked potential last friday and will have LP next week.. Left message for my doc about evoked potential to get results. No call back. Am seeing him next Thursday for LP so will probably convey results then. Do your docs ACTUALLY call you back with test results or do they not?? I want to know my results and no one is supposed to give you them except your doc! How is your luck with that?

It took me 6 months to be seen by the neurologist who finally diagnosed me and I would walk through fire for him. He calls me back with every test result, suggestions and to check on how I am doing. He has called me (from the hospital) at 7 in the evening and on Saturdays. I don't think he ever sleeps or goes home. His staff says all his patients LOVE him.

My neuro calls me back with all test results and he returns calls when I call him. Most people like my neuro,he's definatly good DR.

Super,

Its a good practice for everyone to get copies of there records, sometimes, especially the DRs don't always disclose everything on MRI's or they'll say its normal, but when you look at a bottom of a test it'll say it can't rule this or that out.

Hoping you find better DRS.

I called my docs office again for results of my Evoked Potential. The secretary said the results were in, and she would have the doc call me. Then she said "If it was anything important, I am sure he would have called." Well, he STILL hasnt called back even after she said he would call. Should I assume the results are normal?? ARGH! Doctors are so aggravating...What makes SO many of them think they are superior to everyone else?? I mean, I am a lawyer and I ALWAYS return my clients phone calls and emails... And THIS is a matter of someones health. You would think they would be more sensible...

If you don't hear soon, call the office and tell them you want the report faxed to you.I had to do this after I waited for LP results. After 6 weeks of waiting I finally ask the DRs. nurse to fax them to me.I get all results directly faxed to my home, regardless if the DR has reveiwed them or not.You are entitled to all med records, they can not with hold them.

Yeah, they take forever to even send them and the doc has to "send them" down to medical records. Was your LP normal?? All i need is for someone, (even secretary) to call me back and say "they were normal." Geez. Not THAT tough...

Is this an awful thing to say? I kind of hope they are not normal cause otherwise they have no clue what caused my arm to go...Its been 3 months. My other hand is slowly being affected too...Starts numbing up and hurting but not nearly as much as the right...So its like, OK I have 5 lesions...If the EP is normal and if LP is normal, what are the lesions and why are they there and what caused my arm to go? SO frustrating....

I am a scientist myself...I am a patent attorney in the medical device area and have a biomedical engineering degree..I had a lot of faith in science and medicine. I think I am losing it with the way things are handled in the medical profession...Really.

No my LP was not normal,it came back highly elevated for myelin basic protein, showing the a demyelinating process occuring, but the old neuro said it was normal.Needless to say I kicked that neuro to the curb.
The medical staff has there own guide lines that they DX MS.Most neuro's would of DX'd you by now.
Keep calling the neuro's office,call 2 or 3 times a day.Guarenteed you'll get a response.
I just had a ENG/VNG,I talked to the ENT and they sent me the Dx report.I won't see neuro until end of NOV.
I had brain MRI 2 1/2 weeks ago,the mri didn't show brain stem lesions, but the vng detected them.Go figure.I will here from my neuro before the weeks up.
Don't get down on the medical profession,it took me 3 neuro's to find the cause ,there are great ones out there.
Keep pushing for the results.

Nuff, I am assuming you have a diagnosis?? What did it take to get your diagnosis?? Which tests were positive?? The only positive test I have so far is my MRI. EP I am assuming might be normal. I havent had my LP yet...

MY diagnosis came after 1 lesion in occipital region along with occipital atrophy.LP-highly elevated myelin basic protein.Visual evoked potentals abnormal bilaterial.Samotosensory evoked potential abnormal.MY relexes went from hyper to hypo.Babsinki sign present.
After several test and many different DRs.This was the only possible explanation.I don't meet the MCDonald criteria, but my neuro goes outside that box in certain cases.

I read my med reports and I apparently have a "mute toe" in which he wrote sometimes goes up and sometimes down...Is that the Babinski sign? Styill no call back...Guess I will have to wait until my LP. If that it normal, I need to take this to another neuro...If my hand was getting any better I wouldnt worry. But its not, its worse... :(

Babinski is present when the great toe extends upward and the little toes fan outward. This a neurological sign that somethings has gone wrong in the spinal track or in the muscles.
