Do any of you think I qualify? I will be brief with list of problems. I am 52 by the way and weigh 104.
1-necrosis of spine
2-sciatica
3-scoliosis-37 degree
4-rib deformation from scoliosis
5-stenosis
6-spondylosis
7-DDD
8-osteoarthritis
and other terms I can't even pronounce. I am in constant pain and extreme
numbness. Doctors say they can't believe I work full time, but I do and go home to cry.
Insurance dropped me because I am high risk and I can't afford to pay the catastrophic rates so I feel I may be forced to go on disability but wanted opinions.

Thanks to all, Dyana

Dyana,
The fact that you are working would disqualify you. You have to have a condition that is NOT going to allow you to work for at least 12 months or more. It is a long slow process and how people survive waiting to be approved can be very tough. It took me two years to be approved.

It isn't exactly what you may have wrong with you that will qualify you or disqualify you,it is all dependant on just how severely it all, combined, really impacts your daily living and your abilities to actually 'do' things anymore.you can have many different medical conditions that still would not qualify you for disability if it does not impact you as far as what you still can do as far as being able to still work any job,not just your current line of work.or you can have one very severe and disabling condition that completely just puts you "out of commission' as far as ever being employable.your abilities,or lack there of, are the key here not the actual conditions,in most cases.you know what i mean?

i am just curious about your necrosis of the spine?what area of your spine(spinal cord?) is actually just dead tissue?or are they calling this myelopathy?

If you want some good info,go to the disabilitys board here opn these boards.alot of good info there that helped me alot when i was going thru the process a couple years ago.was denied the first go round but got it at the reconsideration stage.alot of folks, regardless of severity of disabilitys will still get denied the first time,so don;t be too suprised if this actually happens.good luck if you decide to go this route tho.Marcia

Feelbad, thank you for responding. As far as the necrosis the Neurosurgeon said it is in the canal that the nerves to my legs run thru. I don't remember
the word myelopathy at all. 2 different doctors have seen me and use different terms tho. This is all new to me. This is the first time I went to a doctor because of no insurance, then when I got some and they saw the MRI and reports they would no longer insure me. The doctor told me I needed surgery that would run around $150,000 and no guarantees it would help. The other said I would probably be in a wheelchair in 3-5 years. I don't buy into statistics tho. I will just continue to work because like milions of people just plain "have to". I have suffered for years with extreme pain but have a strong will. The main reason I went in was the large lump on my back left side of rib cage (grapefruit size) hurts so bad and is caused by the scoliosis that has deformed my rib cage. Ask anything you want, I just don't know alot of the terms unless I look at the MRI notes and then some of it is jibberish. Bony ridges, forminal etc.
Thanks again, Dyana
