Hi.
I'm new to the Board and stumbled across it by accident. I'm extremly worried at the moment as I have been experiencing chest pain and pain in the middle of shoulder blades and what seems like my spine. It is not excruiating pain but a dull ache which is constant and that I am very aware of. I have also had a cough for the past 5 weeks which has slowly diminished (i'm hardly coughing at all now), but was non-productive. I did not cough up any phlegm or blood, but just seemed to linger more than I thought would be normal. I've been to my doctors on three separate occasions, the last visit my Doctor relunctantly (after much arguing by me) sent me for a chest x-ray. I had that a week ago and still have a further week to go to wait for the results. The waiting is killing me and is all I can think about. I've convinced myself that there is something seriously wrong with me. Are the symptoms i'm experiencing typically lung cancer symptoms. I'm 35 years old and a non-smoker, but I use to smoke socially in my mid 20s for a short while. I would appriciate any views anyone has.
I would like to add that I have read the many stories on this board and truly feel for those people and their families who are dealing with cancer.
Many thanks for listening.

Hi there,
I am no expert, but here in the USA if a chest X ray suspected lung cancer they would have called you in and not made you wait for your appt, So I feel not hearing from the Dr. is a good thing. Back and shoulder pain could be symptomatic of many things and if it were cancer I truly think the Dr.'s office would have called you by now. Try not to worry. I know it's hard. Good Luck!

Hi-
You could have also pulled a muscle while you had your cough. When you go back to the doctor I would have them continue looking into your pain. Please don't worry yourself sick and stay positive, but you are doing the right thing by going to the doctor.
Keep us posted and looking forward to your clean results and maybe just a pull or something.
Kim
Dear SMB2006,
it is very unlike a lung cancer. It just seems like the pains associated with long standing cough.
Cheer up and stop worrying

Hi SMB2006, I've just registered because I was googling these exact same symptoms. Did you find out what it was?
Hope to hear from you.

I had goten sick with the flu at the beginning of Feb. I had a very bad cough, no voice a stuffed up nose and was blowing and spitting out alot of colored phlegm. I went to the doctor and he didn't give me any meds. I also couldn't taste or smell. A few days went by and I called my doctor again and I told him that I wasn't getting any better. He gave me an antibiotic to take for 5 days bu then it works for another 5 days. After I stopped taking it I thought that I could taste a little and smell again, well I was wrong I started coughing alot more and then was having shortness of breath and also wheezing alot and I wasn't able to taste or smell. I was told by my doctor to take the albuterol I have, that didn't really help me. Then I started having some pains in the middle of my chest and my right shoulder blade. I never went back to the doctor it has been atleast 5 weeks now, I think that I am going back to the doctor on Monday. The first time I went to the doctor they also did a chest xray and I was told that everything was clear. I am getting worried too, because I never had a cough and a stuffed up nose this long. I also can't taste or smell anything either. I think that maybe I need more of the antibiotic. He only gave me 250mg, usually I get 500mg when it is really bad. Thanks for listening to me vent.
