I had gotten really sick on Monday and after passing out multiple times and throwing up constantly. i also was slurring my speech and i was really quite out of it. By the time i got to the ER... i was really dehydrated and so they rehydrated me and told me to stop taking ibuprofen for my toothache. Because they were pretty sure i accidently overdosed, not realizing it. So the next day i wake up really early morning and i'm vomitting again. Except this time having not eaten, it was just dark, deep brown looking stuff coming out and it tasted like very metallicy and i knew it was blood. So i went to the campus nurse and told her i was in the ER the night before, and now i was vomitting blood and she told me to go back to my dorm and sleep it off. I was really confused at the time, because i was really out of it. So i went back to my dorm and slept. I woke up, vomitted more blood and last night i vommited more. I'm not sure if i'm still supposed to "sleep it off". Because now that i'm atleast half aware of what i'm doing, it kinda seems retarded to "sleep it off". i also have a history of bulimia and i might have just scratched my throat, because i've done that before. But i've never ever had this much blood or this color before. I'm a little worried now...

I read your post and it really upset me!!! I have cirohsis of the liver (in fact, I am going to be evaluated for the liver transplant list. I have what are called varices in my esphogus due to my liver not functioning properly and have been hospitalized 4 times throwing up the dark blood. They have to get the blood out of your stomach and this last time (4 weeks ago) I had to have 2 units of blood. If the blood is dark (almost the color of coffee grinds) I would tell you that you really need to see a doctor RIGHT AWAY!!!
This is certainly nothing to take lightly or play around with.
I hope every thing goes well for you and let me know how you do.

God Bless,

 What kind of health nurse would tell someone to sleep it off when you are still vomiting blood.?.... You need to go to your family doc. or back to the ER and let them see if you an ulcer or something worse........ please let us know how you are...good luck.................................... ...

I agree with the other two posters. You need to be evaluated urgently. Go back to the ER tell them you have vomited blood on at least three occasions and it was dark. If it looks like coffee grounds then you have possible internal bleeding. This can be a life threating issue. I sincerely hope it's not that serious and that you just tore the lining of the stomach from the first bout of vomiting.
The ER will need to scope your esophagus.

Big ditto on what the others have told you.honestly,is this nurse even an actual nurse??vomiting blood'go sleep it off"??? she does need to be reported for negligence, but thats not your priority right now.

you are indeed actively bleeding from somewhere.i am really suprised that the hospital did not admit you(sounds like everyone is dropping the ball here on you)did they actually do any lab work on you at the ER? if so,did they say anything about your hepatic panel/any numbers out of range there?vomiting up blood, just as you described, was the very first indication we even had that our son was even sick and that time,he was actually down to only having about 20% of actual liver function left.something is very very wrong with you and you need to go back to that ER and demand some attention for this.this could very well be a life threatening issue if the bleeding is stemming from varices in your throat. please go to the ER asap and get some further evaluation.this really HAS TO be done soon.please keep us all posted on what happens,K? i hope this is not what i think it is.good luck,FB

sorry it took me so long to respond, my other computer wouldn't let me log in. but

here's the story

LUCKILY i ignored the nurses lovely response of "sleep it off". And went back to the ER. I had a bleeding ulcer. So basically the first night i was passing out and stuff because i was loosing so much blood, but still felt dizzy after they administered an IV, because well even though i now had fluids, i still had blood loss. When i threw up the "coffee grounds". It was blood from the night previous. If i wouldn't have gone back, it could have ruptured again. And they wouldn't have known it was an ulcer at all. They said that ucler was probably prexisting from my trip with bulimia, and ibruprofen from a toothache, might have set it off to rupture. Or it could have just ruptured... they don't know. But no more ibuprofen and i have a very lovely diet to follow

Meanwhile while i was at the ER, the nurse was complaining to my RA about how i shouldn't have went. How if i absolutely had to go i should have gone to a doctor... luckily i thought ahead and called 3 of them before going the the ER. and they all said "go straight there" i will be speakin to the nurse tommarow about her negligence.
