View Full Version : Incontinence-when to change pads

I had my catheter out Friday 10/20. dry while sleepeing(although I need to get up every 1-2 hrs.) Also while setting down seem to have control. Dribble badly while walking although although I have found the slower I walk the less of a problem this is. With enough concentration can stop flow while standing and it stays stopped. How does this compare with others experience?
My real question is- how do you know when to change a pad. I hear people refer to 1 pad a day and some to 6-7. do we mean soaked, damp, or something else? I surely would rather err on the side of not getting a rash.
Are there any runners or other previously active people on this board. I know I am lucky to be where I am but running is a big part of my life and social circle and would hate to have think I have lost it permanently.

Ron my husband was 51 when our world went a little crazy. His psa was just 4 and we decided to get aother opition. Anyway he had his surgery in March of 2003 he is also a runner. The cath stayed in a little long just to be on the safe side and he didn't mind it so much. He dribbles a little still but he tightens up the mustles when he bends he will still get a little squirt. He was running six miles everyother day and this summer he did run but not as much as he used too. To many home projects but he also like to ride a bike and he hasn't said anything about a problem there. It is just trail and error watching when you bend and you will figure out when you need to watch and see what sets off the leak. Don't let this stop you from doing the things you enjoy in life PC:wave: just shows us that we need to enjoy life and what it has too offer. I hope this helps tale care and stay safe Kathy

You sound a lot like me after my date with the robot on 3/24. Was dry at night or sitting but leaked badly when active. Was going thru 5-6 pads a day. Sometimes I waited too long & soaked under & outer wear. Always carried spares. It's something I put up with. Didn't like the idea of more meds to try to control the incontinence. All I can say is hang in there, I'm down to 1 pad a day, none at night. IT DOES GET BETTER!! Can't say how long it'll be 'til it improves, everyone's different. Take Care.
