Sponsor Willapp 10-30-2006, 10:14 AM Why do you feel you *need* a multivitamin? If you have a balanced diet, you shouldn't really need any excess vitamins at all. That said, there is no harm in taking a multivitamin - any of the standard "one a day" variety should be fine. I just use the one branded by my local supermarket. If you're going to do some serious weight training, a fish oil or flax oil supplement can help your joints, and also Glucosamine and Chondroitin (not sure on the spelling there) are good supplements to keep your joints in good condition, but at first I wouldn't bother - wait until you're lifting heavy. imawake 10-30-2006, 02:56 PM thats the thing, i am lifting daily and trying to get bigger. all body building sites say i ned them Willapp 10-31-2006, 05:24 AM Well, you don't necessarily *need* them. Most sites recommend taking them just to make sure you aren't deficient in any vitamin, through poor diet or whatever. Providing you don't take more than one tablet a day (if it's a one-a-day tablet), it won't do you any harm - most vitamins you'd have to take 5x/10x the daily recommended dose before it could become harmful. Do consider those other supplements I mention - if you're serious about getting bigger, you need to look after your joints to help prevent injury. I notice you say you're lifting daily, what does your weekly routine look like? Lifting weights every day isn't recommended, as you don't give you body enough time to recover - remember that your muscles grow when you're resting, NOT in the gym! :) pantherwrestler 11-01-2006, 02:48 PM Hello, It's better to get vitamins from your food, so eat a well balanced diet. Multivitamins should not replace a good diet, and their effectiveness for the most part hasn't been proved. However, if you are weightlifting I don't think a multi vitamin is going to get you much stronger like you think. Perhaps you are referring to protein formulas or shakes? Protein is good for weight training as it helps the muscles repair. Getting more protein from your diet would be a good start. If you feel you need a protein supplement, consult a personal trainer, nutrionist, or your personal doctor. They will help you come to a solution that best fits your needs. Remember to rest in between weight training sessions so your muscles can repair themselves, eat a well balanced diet, and talk to your doctor about what supplements if any are needed for you. |
