Hello! I am new to this board. I recently started taking Clomid and I am a little concerned about my LH surge. I had my surge last month on the 15th day. This month my Clomid level was raised to 100mg per day from 50mg and I still have yet to surge. I am on my 19th day. I am a little concerned. Has anyone else had their surge move out farther in the cycle while on Clomid?
My other concern is that I have felt a slight crampiness all month since my doctor increased my Clomid. Has anyone else had this problem? I am also paranoid that I won't get the correct reading on my ovulation stick and miss my surge. Does anyone have advice for me concerning the ovulation sticks? I am new to all of this and it is so great to know there are people out there who are going through the same struggles I am. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for over three years now and just started seeking help from my doctor. It has been so confusing and an emotional rollercoaster! I am so happy to finally be able to speak my thoughts on this process to people who are going through it with me!:)

Hi, Hockeybaby -
I went through 3 months of Clomid, the first two at 50 mg, the last one at 100 mg. It DID seem to push my surge out, I think the last month I even ovulated at maybe day 19 or 20. I know I kept waiting and waiting and had to buy a second OPK! So, I wouldn't give up hope yet, especially since you were able to ovulate on the 50 mg.
As far as the OPK's go, I actually tested twice a day, one in mid-morning, the other in late-afternoon. I read that sometimes a surge can be short, like 5-10 hours or something, so that's a good way to ensure you don't miss it. It IS expensive, though, especially if you aren't sure of the general day that you will ovulate (when Clomid messes you up, etc.)
One thing I also noticed with OPK's is the extreme difference in sensitivity. Ok, I am ashamed to admit this, but I am so obsessed and also curious about how these things work, that I would actually do two tests at once (of different brands) to just see what the difference is, and try to get as much information as possible. Anyway, the First Response ones are sooooooo sensitive, that for me to get a positive and truly ovulate (proved by a progesterone test), I actually have to have the test line DARKER than the control line, not just the same color. But, Clearblue shows my surge when the lines are the same color, the test line doesn't have to be darker. So, there's a couple thoughts on that. The way I feel about it is YOU KNOW when you're surging, the line pops up on the test almost immediately, and there's no looking closely to compare colors, it's obvious.
Oh, also, yes I had crampiness all month long with the Clomid. Your ovaries are probably even more stimulated with this higher dose. Keep watch about what you're feeling, because after ovulation I started to have a lot of pain in the side of my abdomen, and it turned out I had ovarian cysts from over-stimulation. They go away on their own usually, but I did have to stop Clomid for this month.
Anyway, I hope that answers some of your questions. I know how you feel, we've been trying for about 3 years also, and it's just so frustrating. How old are you? (hope that's ok to ask) Anyway, this board will be a good resource for you. Keep us posted!

I took clomid for 3 cycles...2 cycles on 50mg, last cycle on 100mg. On all the cycles my abdomen around my ovaries was sore around ovulation, much more so than with injectables which I'm using now. Even though I had more follicles with the injectables. I also developed a cyst on my last cycle of Clomid and that cycle was by far the most painful. I was sore starting like CD 7 continuing through the entire rest of the way through the cycle. But I also had plenty of soreness my first 2 cycles, during which I did not have any cysts.
I hope this is your month. Good luck.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences with me. I love this board! I feel like I finally have people out there who understand ! I just had my second IUI today and will keep all updated! Things looked better this time as far as ovulation progesterone levels and DH sperm count so I am keeping my fingers crossed! Baby dust to all!

I took Clomid 9 times (4 on 50mg 3 worked, 5 on 100 mg all worked) and they did make me ovulate on CD17-19. It took 2 years but Clomid helped me get pregnant so I was very happy with it... even if it did send me into psycho rages :-)

About the ovulation tests all I have to say about that is DON'T USE ANSWER BRAND TESTS! They will tell you you are ovulating even if you aren't. DH was ovulating according to those tests! It might not happen to you but there is a chance it might. I'm not the only one this has happened to.

I know this is a confusing process but it will get better... especially when you get your BFP!

I have been taking Clomid since March, 50 mg the first two months with no results and 100mg since. I finally got to day 20 inOctober with no O and my doc had to give me a shot to make the egg release. I take my hpt tomorrow to see if we were successful or not.

Keep your chin up.

I am willing to bet that no one who is ttc has ever said I want to pee on a stick every day (sometimes twice a day). I too am on clomid and using OPK. The test I took last month showed my surge at day 14,15and 16 I am now wondering if this is due to my chouce of test (Answer brand). I do have to say on the bright side for me my bathrooms have never been cleaner. It is amazing how much cleaning you can acomplish waiting 5 mins for a line to appear on a stick. I get so used to the process of having to do it every day around the same time that during the 2ww I have to remind myself it is ok to just go.
