Trying to get rid of my toenail fungus. I am presently taking 250mg of Lamisil daily. I hope this will work? I have tried everything else. Can someone lend a helping hand?

Clotrimazole cream used for thrush seems to work, if you prefer the herbal route try tea tree oil or petunia oil.

Haven't tried this myself, but Dr. Gott who's medical column appears in our local paper, claims many have been cured by using Vick's Vapor Rub. Seems like it's worth a try.

Thanks for the info but I have already went that route and none of those products work for me.

Have you gone to your Doctor, as fungal problems come from inside the body, there is a course of tables that can only be prescribed that may work for you.

There are a lot of over-the-counter treatments you can try and some 'home remedies' as well. Fungus is VERY hard to kill anc can take upwards of a year to even get it under control. Whatever your method of treatment, outside of oral Lamasil tablets, you MUST apply the treatment at least twice daily and keep your nails clean and dry. Fungal spores feed off the proteins in the nail plate and live within the nail plate and the nail bed, which is why it is so hard to kill. It thrives on the excess moisture that builds up in our toenails. If you remove the source of its food, it will eventually die. Since you cannot rip your nails out, keeping the area as dry as possible will help to kill the fungal spores. Vinegar will help to make the area more acidic which does not make for good living conditions for the spores. Vicks Vapor Rub contains thymol and menthol which the spores don't like either. Then there is Reclaim, Reclear, Dr. G's and more over the counter treatments. YOu need to give each treatment at least three months to see if it will begin to clear up the infection before trying something else.

Thanks Marti I am now on Lamisil and I will try the Vick's Vapour Rub with Vinegar and see if that will work. It should work it will just take some time to clear it all up. I will keep you posted. Thanks again.
