My brother has had OCD and tourette's syndrome for most of his life. For the past two years he has refused to be on any medication and he has really deteriorated mentally.

He is now seeing a new psychiatrist and she has been able to get him to take Seroquel, which is an anti-anxiety medication. She started him on 100 mg. once a day and I saw an improvement in his behavior-he was less anxious, able to move around a little easier and he seemed happier.

However, the other day he was talking about wanting to commit suicide. He has often said through the years that he wishes that committing suicide wasn't a sin. A week ago he said that he wanted to take a whole bottle of Aleve. I've never heard him talk that way before and am really worried about him.

I went to his doctor appt. this week. His caseworker and a lady from the group home were also there. His doctor was able to get him to agree to take a higher dose of the Seroquel, but nothing else. She tried to get him on Klonopin for the tourette's syndrome, but he refused. There are other medications that she thinks might help him, but he will not take them.

Sorry this is so long. I just wondered if anyone else is on Seroquel (or other meds for that matter) and what your experiences are. I am hoping to get positive responses so that my brother will continue to take the Seroquel plus some other medications. I agree with him that taking meds doesn't solve the problem; it just makes it easier to deal with once you find the right meds that work for you.

Thanks for your help.

I am sorry to hear about your brother. I have taken many different anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, etc....and have been on seroquel the longest. I love it, sometimes it doesn't work as good so i have to up the dosage, but don't do it with out a dr.s permission. The thing with these medicines is that it is all trial and error. Meaning what may work for some may not for others. However, if he just started the medication it may take weeks to be in full effect. He should really consider taking something like xanax to calm him down in the mean time, that is something that works right away and you dont need to stay on it. Good Luck!

Hi, thanks so much for responding to my message. I am hoping to get more responses. My brother has been on Seroquel for about three weeks now and I am seeing that he is less anxious. His doctor did just increase the Seroquel so hopefully he will improve even more. His doctor did try to get him on Klonopin for his ticks (he also has tourette's syndrome), but he is really stubborn about taking any meds.

Thanks so much for your response.
