What is purging? I that bigning and then throwing up. If purging helps you lose weight, I will try it, but throwing up is not for me....

I don't get the difference

Purging is when you get rid of the calories you've consumed in some kind of way, whether that be self-induced vomiting, using laxatives, dietretics, or exercising. But generally when we talk about it on the boards here we're talking about throwing up and trust me when I say...you DO NOT want to purge. We are not here to support each other's eating disorders. But rather support the person and help each person through their eating disorder. It makes me sad that you want to help in developing an eating disorder. Eating disorders are h*ll. A silent lonely h*ll. I'm sorry if I miss understood your post in anyway.

Hey Tired. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Carlie's right, Tired. We're not here to support each other in developing an ED. So asking what something is just so that you can go and try it is NOT a good idea! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/tongue.gif

It's just that many people here have been through - as Carlie puts it - "H*LL" with their ED's and no one here wants to help anyone to develop one because of that!

I've read your other posts so I sort of know what you're going through and I know you must be so frustrated with everything not to mention the depression that ED's bring on... but believe me, purging (or more to the point, bulimia) is not a long term answer to your problems. Whatever weight you may lose during your fight with bulimia, you are almost certain to put back on once you quit those behaviours. And then some... more than likely.

Sorry, Tired. This ISN'T the answer. You will do yourself so much damage if you become bulimic.

If you're so desperate to lose weight and you think it's best for your current condition, please see a nutritionist. And have you ever considered seeing a psychologist? Possibly seeing both at once would be the most affective as the psychologist will help you find ways to end the binging and the nutritionist will help you to lose weight the HEALTHY way (IF it's necessary) so that you can keep it off. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Good luck, Tired! All the best to you!

Hi Tired http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif

I have little else to say beyond what Carlie and Ashlee have already said http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif They're so good at saying things the right ways.

But I must comment that what Ashlee said is SO TRUE. Once the Bulimia gets under control, you gain weight back...and quickly. Your body is still in "starvation" mode, which means that everything you eat (and keep down) will turn almost immediatly to fat, because your body is not sure when it will get to eat again, so storing it as fat is its own way of keeping it for longer.

This makes recovery even harder, because you see the scales going up, and your self-esteem going down. ED's aren't all physical...it's so much about your emotional and mental health. Please becareful. you are flirting with a dangerous devil, who will ask for much more than your soul. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif

Good luck, I'll be thinking about you. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/angel.gif

It is getting rid of (or trying to) the calories. Purging can include throwing up, laxatives compulsive excercizing etc. Please dont try it. Eating disorders arent something you want.

A few years ago I was working two jobs and drinking a ton of coffee and eating one power bar and working out for about two hours a day. Then I would take any diet pill new to the market and laxatives. I now take none of that but if I feel I overeat I be sure to exercise longer or harder than usual.
I am in a healthy weight range and am in therapy for depression. My therapist does not see me as having an ED I don't want one - he does see me has having restrictive anorexia... Whatever that means, I count ever thing I eat like I will say I had two of these and one of those and stuff. I am preoccupied over eating.
So I don't know what it is I have except that I know I have an intense fear of gaining wieght and do have BDD I think I look horrible in clothes when my friends and family say different

Hi Tired!

I used to do exactly what you are describing. Counting foods. I would go so far as to say how many bites I took of certain things. For example, if I were eating a baked potato, instead of saying I ate 1/4 or 1/2 of it, I would say, I took 6 bites of a baked potato. It was such a hard habit to break. But please try. It adds to your difficulty with eating disorder and food issues.

Being preoccupied with food is a very draining lifestyle. I know, because I live it daily (and have for many years). Have you talked to your therapist about your eating habits, he said that you had "restrictive anorexia." I must admidt that I'm not quite sure what that means exactly. Because anorexia is restricting food, so adding another "restrictive" in there doesn't seem to make much sense.

Either way, I think you are coming to realize that your eating habits are not normal. The misuse of laxatives is very dangerous, and I hope that you are realizing that sometimes behaviors may go unnoticed for a long period of time.

I must sound dumb once again, but what exactly is BDD? I was just curious. I'm really not good with abbreviations. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif
