I am home after having an endoscopy. (Short history: I had my gallbladder removed in 2005 and began having "gallbladder-type pain" about four months ago).
The GI doc did talk to me afterwards, but I was still coming off my meds and don't have aclear understanding.
Basically, he told me he saw inflammation (gastritis), but also found unabsorbed bile acids? I think that's what he said. It was yellow in the pictures. He prescribed Nexium and some type of powder that I mix with water and drink 2x/day. I think it's to help absorb the bile (acid). Again, I'm kind of foggy on what he said. My follow-up appt is not until next week, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what this is?
Does anyone know what causes this, or what this means?
He also took a biopsy of something, but again, I can't remember what is was for.
Thanks for any insights!!

Seabreeze.. unabsorbable bile acid is something that is seen after your gallbladder has been removed (as I am learning about this right now for myself). Since you dont have a gallbladder your bile just continually drips into your intestines and if not absorbed into your small intestine then it passes to your large intestine and isnt absorbed but rather is excreted in your stools. The powder that you will be starting will help with that and will help "bulk" up your stools. Nexium of course is just to help calm your stomach down (the gastritis).

Thank you very much. I deal with bouts of diarrhea, but I also deal with bouts of constipation. Is this powder mixture something that I will need to consume indefinately. It's horrible.

Seabreeze, it is my understanding and I could be wrong here, but you could use the powder intermittently when you have bouts of diarrhea. I am unsure about the indefinetly part. You can get it in a pill form, but I must warn ya the ones I have are HUGE!!!!!!!!!
