two night ago i had severe abdominal pain. piercing/stabbing pain in my upper center and upper right area. i lived through the pain (i've never experienced anything like that) and bouts of diarrhea and made it in to see the physician's assitant at my drs. office (the doc. was booked all day). she said my gallbladder felt enlarged and that if the pain returned over the weekend to go to the emergency room. i still have mild pain but definitely not as bad as what i had the other night and my fever has been going up and down. last night it was at 100 but today it's back down to 98.2. i'm not sure what i should be doing. they took blood tests at the drs. office but when i called for the results they said i'd have to wait until the dr. returned on monday when he could read them. are gallbaldder problems life threatening? i know if the pain is as bad as it was the other night i'll definitely go in to the emergency room but right now it's just mild when i eat and/or move in the wrong way. any suggestions? i'm at a loss.
thanks.

EAT NO FAT! Period. Be very careful and don't aggravate it until you know for sure what it is. And yes, it can be life threatening but if it is just now bothering you, it would take some time before it gets to that stage. You probably just had a really fatty mean and it set it off. They'll need to do an ultrasound and/or a HIDA scan to be sure what it is. Blood work will show whether your bilirubin is elevated which can indicate GB problems. Eat right and hang in.

thanks for the response. i am still feeling uncomfortable but nothing extreme. i can't believe this can be happening, i'm only 28! the dr. called back with the test results late yesterday, my liver and kidney functions are fine and my wbc count was 1/10th elevated- nothing to be worried about he said. i'm starting to freak out now because my grandfather passed away years ago from bile duct cancer and my uncle (his son) passed away from a similar digestive cancer. of course, looking long and hard enough on the internet one can diagnose themselves dead in two weeks so i'm trying to keep my mind on other things. besides eliminating fat is there anything i CAN be eating? i've read about apples but nothing else seems to be the same from site to site.

Sounds like you could have cholecystitis...just my two cents worth, as I am no doctor! I had similar problems to what you have explained about 6 months ago...abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever plus nausea and vomiting. Spent a week in the hospital, then a HIDA scan was done and showed almost no function at all in the gb. Had surgery the next day to remove it. My white count was normal the entire time! If you are still hurting at all, I would say pay another visit to the doc, or if you get any worse go to the ER. I am only 20, and I thought I was way too young for gallbladder problems...obviously not!

Take Care!

Megan
