Let me start by saying that I am only diagnosed with probable MS, but my neuro is so certain I have it that he started me on Avonex almost immediately. He is prevented from giving me a definitive diagnosis as I have not had a 2nd attack - ridiculous if you ask me.

Anyway, my initial symptom was a weak, heavy left leg. Although, the heaviness and weakness got better after just a couple of weeks, I still to this day have problems with that leg. My leg hip specifically will hurt if I have my leg splayed out for any reason. For example, if I sit cross legged or if I'm putting on a shoe and extend my knee out to the side. I have a treadmill I walk on daily and I can only do about 30 minutes before my leg starts to give out on me. My GP initially thought it was trochanteric bursitis now she doesn't as it doesn't hurt to press on that area. She's ruled out arthritis. Could this just be an extension of that initial weakness or could there be something else going on completely unrelated to the MS?

my left leg does what it wants,, also when i am doing stairs my hip will pop out,, it is to the point now and it has happened so many times i can put it back in myself,,, my left foot also drops when i walk too much,, so i have to keep telling it to move when i walk and that gets on my nerves it's better off to just stay home and not have to worry about that stuff,, but it is the MS that does it,, i had one neuro that argued with me and told me that MS does not cause pain or muscle problems,, so i dumped him and got a younger one who knows! good luck,, i see a pain specialist, that helps with the pain and a massage therapist but nothing stops the hip pain or the foot dropping when it wants.

My right leg has a mind of its own.I have to wear a leg brace to control it.It goes to the far right,it will cross over the left, which causes me to trip.It will step real high.If I walk to much it will drag behind me.I get terrible pain in it starting at the hip, muscle spasms.I don't know if its from the 2 failed back surgeries or the MS.Probably a combination of both.I do have some weakness in the right leg.I really think that the signals from my brain to my leg are scrambled, theres no communication between the two.

I didn't think that the hip pain could be MS related. I have for about the past 10 years had problems with my hip. I thought it was the old arthritis rearing its ugly head. I saw a rheumy for about 2 and half years who knew it was something more than arthritis causing my pain and fatigue but he never mentioned MS...eventually I was diagnosed with Graves Disease and told it was fixed. Nonetheless, I have had countless times when I was walking (perhaps around the mall) and found that suddenly I had unbearable pain in my left hip and was limping around. What is that all about it? :dizzy: An within a few ours or a day or two, the pain is gone and my walking is back to normal.
