Hello -

My husband has been struggling with otosclerosis for many years. His hearing finally got to the point that it was inhibiting his life. Yesterday he had the surgery, and today he is amazed at what he hears.

The surgery itself was not horrible. Checked in at 9:00 and was home by 1:00. He slept soundly through the night, taking medication for nausea and pain resulted in very little discomfort.

Turned on the tv this morning (turned up to his normal volume) and looked at me in amazement. THAT IS SO LOUD! he said.

We have spent the day running errands and eating out. No medication since 9:00 am. I can't wait to see how he hears when the packing finally is removed in a week!

So please, don't be afraid of the horror stories. Know that there is help, and that this surgery can restore much of your life.

And yes, of course we found great doctors at the California Ear Institute.

So,
Was it removed yet?

Amazing thing is though, most people hear almost NOTHING til after the packing is removed. Maybe they used a lite dose of packing on your husband.
