Recently I have started having this really strange feeling in my throat. At the bottom of my neck, if feels like it closes of for a split second. Kinda like when someone is drinking through a straw and someone would close it off just for a second and then let it go. When this happens, it makes me cough involuntarily. It is happening more and more frequently. I have it happen at least 20 or 30 times a day. It is a really scary feeling. I can't really explain it. Has anyone else ever had this? Any info would be wonderful.

My husband had something that caused similar symptoms. It was most evident when he ate or drank. It turned out that he had a hernia which induced a ring stricture on his esphogus that would spasm ocassionally, causing him to choke, cough, and spew water and food on many occasions. One quick outpatient procedure performed by the GI doctor fixed his problem. It was also not a lethal problem, just annoying. I would recommend going to see either an ENT or a GI MD. The fact that it is at the base of the neck would make me lean toward recommending a GI MD more.
Sincerely,
MG
