i am currently taking 10mg of amitriptyline(elavil) every night for anxiety. is it safe to have 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks (like a glass of wine or beer) late at night when the medicine is wearing off? i know it makes u sleepier but since its such a low dose and im not having too many drinks, will it affect me still? please reply asap. thanks

Best to ask these kind of questions to a pharmacist or your prescribing doctor.

The thing with these medicines is that they don't "wear off" as the day goes on, they slowly build up in your system over time...even if you hadn't taken it for a day or two, you'd still have the medicine in your system, so you always have to be extra careful.

It's not like Xanax with a short half-life.

Do I think it's safe to have a glass of red wine on 10mg of Elavil...probably, but I would not take anyones opinion on a message board over the advice from a doctor/pharmacist, because they know you much more than any of us do (other medications or health problems, etc.).
