I was put on birth control when I lost a lot of weight due to anorexia (since my periods stopped for 10 months). Has anyone else who has had anorexia been put on birth control? Can you share your experience, and what your periods were like after you stopped taking it?

I was put on birth control for the same reasons you stated earlier. My period had stopped for over a year. When I decided to recover from my anorexia the doctor said until I gained some weight, the bc would make it so I got my periods. Well, it did and I gained some good, healthy weight. After about a year of being on the pill I stopped taking it and my periods were regular again. I didn't have any problems at all. I think if you need to take birth control to get your period's going again, take it. It worked for me.
Good luck and if you have anymore questions, let me know!

Love, Jen

I've been anorexic for twelve years and haven't had a period for that long.
I've been on the contraceptive pill for only a couple of months. It's for osteoporosis, to increase bone density. I stopped taking it as I was worried about gaining weight and had a period which was horrible, I hated it.

Hi!

I know severeal people who were put on the birth control pill to get their periods back once they decided to recover from their ED. It worked for all of them. I've recently decided to go on birth control, and I actually posted a question about this in an earlier thread. I have no started it yet, but I hope to by next month (fingers crossed)

Hi.
I'm anorexic and bullemic and haven't had a regular period in 11 years. I went on the pill for a while (osteoporosis - needed estrogen for bone density purposes) and my period did indeed return while I was on it. Unfortunately, i started experiencing some complications. I'm only 26 and i had a minor stroke last year...my doctor ISN'T SURE but says it may be related to the pill (i'm also a smoker which isn't reccomended while on the pill as blood clots can result)I don't mean to scare you...the pill can be very beneficial as normal menstruation aids the female body in several ways. I just want to make you aware that while on the pill you need to be very conscious of your health situation and keep in touch with your doctor.
My period hasn't returned and i am CONSIDERING going back on a lower dose estrogen pill once i have quit smoking.
Hope all goes well for you.

Wow, that must have been really scary to have a stroke especially for your young age. I have heard about the blood clots while being on the pill.

For you (and everyone else), isn't it pretty dangerous not to get your period for that long? I mean I thought 10 months was bad enough, but 11 or 12 years without menstruating? Wouldn't your bones be super weak? Would you be infertile? I'm thinking I need to go see a gynecologist soon because it's been 9 months and 9 days since I had a period.

Thanks again for posting!
