Hi,
Yes, HBP definitely is a cause for stroke. I can attest to it since I had my stroke at age 55 and unaware I had High Blood Pressure. My pressure was 210/132 when I entered the ER. Evidently, I was later told that since the pressure was high, it caused the blood platlets to get clogged in a very small portion of my brain. It's a good thing I was taking an aspirin a day for about 5 years. Doctors said the stroke would probably have been much worse.
I was totally paralyzed on my right side, affecting my leg and arm. Thank God, outside of the HBP, nothing else was wrong with me. For this reason I was able to sustain a vigorous 4 hour a day, 5 days a week rehab for about 5 months both as an inpatient and outpatient.
Today, I only walk with a cane outdoors, and have regained about 85% functioning of my right hand.
Yes, I would advise taking an aspirin, but first ask your doctor. People with certain other conditions such as ulcers, it would not be advisable.
Hope this helps and good luck!
