What do you eat? Do you have a menu for the first - induction week? I'd like to try it, but I haven't been able to pick up the book and I just want the basics...I'm not into cooking big meals. The simpler the better. Any help would be amazing!

Hi! I was just wondering is it still working? Are you still on the Atkins Diet and is it easier to stop the b-p cycle by sticking to the diet? I wanted to know which foods were okay to eat on the diet you are following. I'm in recovery for bulimia and am trying to adopt normal eating habits where I eat meals that make me full and stop me from snacking. Thanks!

hi you guys, im not a purger, but ive definetly overeaten thruout my life.
at 300 lbs, i finally took an ivitation from a friend and attended a tops meeting with her. im down 30 lbs. ive noticed something , now that im more in tune with what im eating. When i eat carbs, I want to keep eating carbs- they are addicing to me as hell. when i eat my lowfat meats and vegs, i dont want to overeat. the urge just isn't there. sugar and fat thrown in with the carbs, like the processed foods ... whoa!, stand back ,i'll eat the whole box. i wonder, do you think the food industry knows what ingredients are poison/addicting to us, and keeps feeding them to us? (just like the tobacco companies did?)
thats what i think they're doing. not only that, but they'll use sly tactics to fool you into thinking your doing yourself a favor, like, " contains all the calcium you need for the day" etc..etc.. meanwhile they've pumped you with garbage. Ever thought about this one: 95 % of the food shelved in these mega markets is processed! 26 isles of processed garbage and one isle of produce. They are making trillions of dollars to poison you,and they know how to keep you coming back..sugar/carb addiction. have you thought about the fact that as the last 30 years has past, the increase in processed foods seems to be in direct correlation with the increase in obesity, etc? the other day i read an article where a doc was stating that kids are fatter now than ever because they don't exercise. what a crock o crap. It's the garbage going into their guts. I havnt exercised one day to lose these 30 pounds. all i did was cut down on the fat/carb/sugar. sorry im going on such a roll, but, it peeves me that this industry is killing people with a slow and silent death and getting away with it.

How's a diet supposed to cure you of a mental disorder? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Your cure comes from within not with some diet. A diet got you into this in the first place. Are you not still worried about your weight, hence the diet? Get some real help as in counseling because the longer YOU try to control this monster the longer you wil have it. I have had it (mostly under control for about 5 years now) since 1981 and have had more health problems at 40 than most 80 year olds. I wouldn't have them if not for my emotional problems including and especially bulimia. Quit looking for the quick fix because it is definitely not a diet.

I too think Atkin's is an excellent way to go. One of the problems with bullimia is the constant sugar highs and lows. It's very typical for people to binge and purge on sugary foods. Atkins most definitely helps to balance things out while either helping you loose weight if you need to or to maintain where you're at without the sugar rushes. I love it and highly recommend it.

Gosh, I have to agree that another diet is not the way to recovery. I guess whatever stops you to binge is good, but what always sets me off is my own restrictions. Diets usually are the cause of this. Stablizing your blood sugar is a good idea, but not with a diet. Just with healthy eating. If foods are illegal then they will be all the more tempting to binge and purge. Just my thoughts.

I neglected to say that I almost tried the Atkins diet but after reading what it entailed I thought, how in the world could I do this if I can't even eat healthy in the first place and sent it back.
I have a couple co workers who went on this and one quit in 2 weeks and the other didn't loose much weight at all after 3 months of suffering the strict eating. This can never be a permanent solution as it is too hard to comply with long term and has too many healt risks.
Please don't try to cure your ed with a diet it is one of the biggest symptoms of an ed not a cure.

I say more power TO you!
A mental disorder is not permanent...all you have to do is change how you think.
Some things do need controlled! Like what we think and how we eat.
To change from an unhealthy thinking pattern to a healthy one is not unhealthy! Stick with it and don't let anyone put you down!
Do what works for you!

I really doubt that if you were genuinely bulimic (rather than just "trying out" purging as a fad) you could just "stop" it from one day to another, there's so much more to bulimia and other eating disorders than stuffing your face and wanting to lose weight! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif

I was looking for the fibromyalgia section, but got "moved" over here. I thought I'd reply and comment to this anyway...still adjusting to the new system.... I hope this works. :)
I don't follow an Atkins diet, because for one, I'm on a low meat diet and eat lots of whole grain carbohydrates. But I think the Dr. Atkins diet may be great for some people if it keeps them from processed foods of refined carbohydrates and sugars.
I eat lots of carbohydrates, but most of them are from whole grains. I make my own cereals from wheat berries, flax seeds, brown rice, and millet. I have these cereals as part of my regular meals in the evening. I grind up the whole grains in my Vitamix. I've kept my weight under control this way, for about 20 years, following a diet of mostly natural foods. The type of food definitely can affect your eating habits, the amount of weight that you gain, and sickness.
Note that the food industry often fills processed foods with high calorie sugars and chemicals...making them taste good...but highly fattening. When you starve the body of nutrients, but provide it with high calories, the end result is eating disorders and problems. These sugars are "hidden" because often you don't realize that they are there, and they call them by different names such as corn syrup.
Gailski98 is right on target with this. More people need to know what's causing us these problems. It often is the type of foods that we eat.
