Hi to all. My 36 year old brother has had seizures since birth due to brain trauma. Besides the seizures, which he takes several medications for, he is severly mentally handicapped. I've grown up believing that there was nothing more that could be done for him.

Recently I heard about a new development in epileptic research known as biosensors that detect seizure activity and halts the seizure with electronic pulses to the area affected.

What are these other surgery options I have read about on this board? The only one I am vaguely familiar with is the split brain procedure.

Thus, I am at the very beginning of my research. I know of no websites, organizations, or even neurologists with whom I may find information regarding this and/or any other subjects on the topic. Please, if anyone could spare a few moments to send me an email at loribelle35@hotmail.com , I would appreciate any information you could provide. Thank you and God bless you all.

Dear LittleBigSis,

I am 18 and diagnosed with epilepsy 2 years ago. My mom went heavily into research since she knew nothing about it. You said that you wanted to know of any help. The only help I can give to you that helped me and my mom the most was the Epilepsy Association of America. I dont know if they have a website(haven't checked, sorry), but if you look in the phone book you should find the number to your local center. If that doesn't help, try the website www.epilepsy.com (http://www.epilepsy.com) . They have a lot of good stuff, too. I dont know much about the biosensors since I have yet to hear about them but they might be able to help you. Good luck.
