I am wondering if you have had menstrual problems? njgabbai 12-12-2000, 07:40 AM Well, I am not a woman, but I am on Carbatrol Bendcoles 12-12-2000, 03:29 PM My daughter takes Carbatrol but is only 8. If you are having problems have you asked your gynecologist? I worry about problems when she does get her cycle as I've been told that seizures can occur more around that time of the month. Hope you get the answers you need! Diane cheer-mom 12-12-2000, 04:46 PM Hi, Found out today from neuro that it is likely due to that, maybe stress (which I doubt) so we will see. Good luck with your daughter, so far I think it is a good drug and I haven't had any other problems! Gail 12-12-2000, 07:41 PM I am on Carbatrol but I have always had menstrual problems. May I ask, what kind of problems are you having? cheer-mom 12-12-2000, 09:52 PM Not really a "problem" just not having any. For me, that is okay since I don't need to worry about pregnancy. I don't know how long it will last or anything, I just started. But if you are trying to get things straightened out, this may not help. I will tell you that the PDR and other handbooks say nothing about it, except that it can cause breakthrough bleeding on birthcontrol pills and alter pregnancy test results. This is not a drug to take if you may be pregnant. Good luck to you. zoeph 02-08-2001, 01:21 AM I just finished participating in a Stanford study about this: http://www.stanford.edu/group/neurology/epilep/projects.html (but the trial coordinator just left so I am not sure what happens next without her to run all of the paperwork for the researchers). My cycles have been running early if anything (women always try to match their friends) but they had noticed a trend towards women not ovulation and thus skipping periods. Some times for months. If you get an ultrasound of your ovaries you would be able to see all of the little half rippened folicles lineing up.... she said they nicknamed it a "string of pearls" for how it looks. I ovulate like clockwork so I had folicles of all stages of ripeness. I had to fill out pages and pages and pages of questionares about my cycles and seizures like crazy. At Stanford the ob/gyn clinic is next door to the epilespy clinic... I suspect that is how they got into partnership on the question. -Zoe, the guinea pig remtana 12-17-2003, 07:32 PM anyone taking carbatrol? who are women? I am wondering if you have had menstrual problems? Hi there. I have been on tegretol/carbatrol for about 13years. I have not had any menstrual problems with it. I have had ovarian issues, but I don't think the two are linked or anything. My periods are pretty normal. I hope you find the answers you need. This is not a drug to take if you may be pregnant. Good luck to you. Just in response to the "pregnant" issue. I took this medication when I was pregnant with both my daughters. I had different docs at the time and they both said Carbatrol is the safest med to take with pregnancy. I needed to take a prescription strength folic acid though. I was told the only problems associated with Carbatrol and pregancy is cleft palate/lip. In the PDR it is classified as a C drug, but almost seizure meds are classified that. Angela MandiX 12-17-2003, 08:20 PM Ive been on Carbatrol for 5 years. My periods are totally regular except sometimes they get messed up but its usually bc im stressed/sick etc etc. We're already starting to switch me over to Lamictal bc even though I'm only 20...i want NO carbatrol in my system and be sure the Lamictal works even a few years before I want to have kids. Carbatrol is THE worst anti e drug for a pregnant woman to be on. camrab05 01-03-2004, 06:38 AM anyone taking carbatrol? who are women? I am wondering if you have had menstrual problems? I'm on Carbatrol, and noticed that the past few months, my cycle would come about every 3 weeks now. I first thought it was the felbatol, but I quit that one now, so just assumed that I'm about to go through menapause soon. |
