I am considering switching over from my depakote to lamictal upon doctors suggestion for a future pregnancy. Can anyone give me the outcomes or stories? I would love some reassurance and to stop worrying so much!!

Cogratulations on the pregnancy please try not to worry too much.I do not have epilepsy although my son has SMEI a rare epilepsy so i get about lol. I have gotten 2 different opinions from 2 different doctors about pregnancy and seizure medications. One says Spinabifida is the most common side effect. My current neurologist, who I am told is one of the best Eptologists in the world, says that a woman taking siezure medication has as much of a chance of birth defects as woman taking no medication.
