I have a 3 year old that started having seizures in October. He had one waking up that morning and we had EEG, and CAT SCAN ran, nothing showed up. Then in November he started having seizures about every 45 minutes and went into status elpitus. He was put in the hospital for 2 days the started him on Dilantin the first day and then moved him to Depakote. We tryed that. It didn't stop them. So they added on Tegretol. He keep having drop seizures so they weaned him off it and added Topamax. Just last week he had two grad-mal seizures and another one yesterday. The recent EEG showed generalized epilepsy. His neuroligist said that if he had another grand-mal that I needed to take him to the local hospital and get him started on Dilantin. I have noticed that every time he has the grand-mal seizures he has been on an antibotic for either a ear infection, or last he was on an antibotic for a sinus infection there has been no fever this time. Does an illness like that knock off all the levels of medicine? This is not my 3 year old son anymore he is a totally different person. With ever medicine they add he has so many different side affects. Is this all common, and what else should I expect???? Should I get a second opinion or does it take a while to get them lined out. It's only been 5 months but it seems like it been 3 years.

Add a teaspoon of BLACKSTRAP molasses (not ordinary molasses!) three times a day to your child's diet.
Add unsalted nuts to his diet.
Do not feed him salted junk food, grapefruit juice, or soft drinks like Coke or Pepsi.
His ear infections may be a sign of milk intolerance, which is very common. But do not limit his milk intake without replacing it with something that will provide the same nutrients. He needs the natural source of calcium and other minerals.
When candy and other sources of sugar are not available, other foods--healthful foods--are readily accepted by even the most picky eaters.
Take a look at the page listed below.

He is a VERY picky eater. What does the BLACKSTRAP Molasses do for him???
He has not had an ear infection since then. Mostly sinus trouble. (Side affect to TOPAMAX) But he already had that before and was taking Claratin as needed before. He dranks milk and Sprite over anything. Mostly milk. Does candy and junk food affect his levels or what???
He goes through spells were he won't eat hardly anything. He is a BIG chocolate fan.
Chocolate milk, poptarts, donuts, anything like that. The neuroligist said that it would have no affect on him?? What do you think??

Blackstrap molasses provides potassium and other minerals--much more potassium than bananas. It's very good for him. Read the page I sent you to learn what potassium does. One of the biggest problems with sugar, Sprite, candy, poptarts, and donuts is that they provide a temporary feeling of fullness without providing any nutrition, and his poor little body gets massive doses of artery scarring insulin with every bite. He can look chubby and be starving.
On the other hand, protein is very filling AND nutritious. It gives his brain and his body the raw materials to grow and to repair itself. So does good fat, like olive oil. But you will never get him to crave a tossed salad as long as there are donuts, poptarts, candy, or Sprite in the house. And he definitely needs to crave vegetables. When he says "Mom, can we have zucchini and lima beans for dinner?" you'll know you've succeeded.
