I am 21yr old, and I have been having a lot of progessively worse health problems over the past five months or so. I have been experiencing the worsening of basically every early symptom of ovarian cancer (which I know does not mean much). But tonight I went to the ER (doctors order) for very severe lower back pain. I had a fever and blood in my urine, along with severe bloating, little urination, change in bowel habits (constipation), huge weight gain, loss of appetite, abnormal bleeding, discharge and pain during intercourse, and the doctors basically told me I'm too young for any problems. The doctor was going over a list of possible causes of lower back pain, and she paused at ovarian cancer, then just said, eh youre too young. WHAT KIND OF MEDICINE ARE THEY PRACTICING?! I am very upset and I was wondering if any other young women with ovarian cancer went through such humiliation. They refused to even give me a simple blood test!!!

Unfortunately there are those doctors out there that care nothing more than making a buck, not the health of their patients. I would most definitely go and see another doctor and get a 2nd opinion. If nothing else they should have at least did a pee test and get some bloodwork done to see if your blood count was up or down. Also, if you do think it is female problems, i.e. ovarian cancer, please go and see your gyno. More often than not, they can do an ultrasound right there in the doctors office to see if anything is going on.

You certainly aren't too young for PID, or for a bladder infection, or kidney infection, or polycystic ovary syndrome...all of which can cause any number of the symptoms you describe...actually you may have more than one thing going on. The weight gain, bloating, constipation, appetite loss, painful intercourse, irregular bleeding...all symptoms of polycystic ovaries. Ovarian cancer would be extremely unlikely and rare at your age...so I wouldn't instantly jump to that conclusion. I would, however, make an appointment with another doctor. Are you saying that the ER doctors ran no tests??? That is just crazy. Any time I have been to the ER, for myself or my children, they put us through the ringer. I would surely never return to that hospital if I were you. Get to another doctor!!

ER doctors... well...basically I think the majority of them have the "patch em up, and send them back to their primary doctors" mentality. They really only focus on TRAUMA.
Can't your primary physician run all the tests, to help you determine what kind of specialist you need to see? Or just try going straight to the gyno.... talk about the painful intercourse, and then just let all the other symptoms out, and see what they put together??
