ok before i start i would like to say if anything i say is wrong please correct me!
i came to this board to talk about the depo shot AFTER i got it. And barton if you are reading this then you already know how you and i talked about the dr NEVER explained anything to me she just gave me the shot. Well yesterday there was a different lady there and she sat with me for a good hour and explained everything. Which was great. My main question was "What is in birth control that makes you gain weight" and i finally got the answer (if its correct) she said the hormone in birthcontrol slows down your metabolism. Well when i first got on depo i told myself i would only eat once a day thinking i would lose weight BIG MISTAKE..because when your body has no food to digest it begins to store fat for a later time. so when i would eat dinner i would be so hungry i would gorge myself and i would only digest that food and the fat that was stored is still stored. She told me foods high in fiber are the best thing to eat because when you digest food it burns alot of fat so the key is to keep it moving (ive heard this so many times before with that new 3 hour diet) She said to eat a light breakfast and 2 hours later snack on a piece of fruit and continue this throughout the day every 2 to 3 hours. a walk everyday helps tremendously with people on depo the first 30 minutes of walking is maintanence but after 30 minutes the body starts to burn all fat. she suggested atleast an hour walk. We all know depo is a huge culprit of weght gain. She was honest and said basically women are supposed to gain only 5 pounds in the first year which she said its never just 5 pounds its more. But some women gain a bunch then they level out. She also said many teeny tiny girls come in and get the shot and they dont gain a pound. must be there metabolism is outstanding and the shot doesnt totally effect it. i personally think it has to do with age. of course the younger you are the better metabolism and we all know when we get older it starts to slow down anyways.
Im gonna try this 3 hour diet. my friend did this and she lost so much weight it was unbelievable when i saw her. My fiances cousin had 2 babys her second was at the same time i had my last one and right now shes actually too skinny. so thats 2 people that tried it with success so im gonna give it a try. Its hard though because i went so long without eating until about 7 at night and now to get used to eating every couple hours is gonna be tough, i just assumed if i became a "partial anorexic" then i would lose weight quicker but in all i actually gained it faster!
Anyone have any insight? i havent gained that much weight "yet" but i dont want to either. i already bought my wedding dress and im afraid i wont fit in it!!
Thanks

I think all that is true. I've always been naturally slim and eaten lots. I also eat every couple of hours. When i went on the pill at 16, i didn't gain any weight. Then 15 years later, i changed onto a different pill and gained 7 pounds. I came off it altogether and lost the 7 pounds. I went back on it and gained the 7 pounds back.

I think the breast increase must be due to the extra eostrogen, rather than the extra weight, as when i come off the pill, i always lose my breasts before i even lose any of the weight i gained. Then when i go back on it, they get bigger before i gain any weight.

Ugh, I hated depo. At first I thought it would be great to not have to worry about something for weeks but still have contraceptive protection. But then my sex drive went completely down the tube. I also gained around 13 pounds (5'7"; went from 125 to 138) while on depo and I was even doing cross country in high school at the time. Now I've been on Mircette BP pills for 5 years and I can tell that my sex drive isn't completely there but I don't have a problem with the weight (I'm now 118 or so). I just wouldn't recommend depo. Once you start taking the pills, it's not hard to forget to take the pills (even after a night of drinking, I always remember). My friend in college also went on Depo and had a similiar situation as mine (weight + no sex drive). If it's working for you then great but if not talk to your doc about switching!
