I've been on Dilantin for 7 years.
600 mg. a day.
I've started having swelling in my legs, joint pain, rashes under my arms and flaking and hardening of the skin on my fingers.
Could any of this or all be caused by the
Dilantin ?

I'm on Dilantin 400mg.a day for now. and what happens to me is my knees get very sore every once in awhile and my gums bleed alot. But I do like to work against everything that happens to me. I like to exercise alot and keep my teeth clean. Another thing that I think is from Dilantin is I have to use nair on the top of my lip but my face can't even handle that stuff for a few sec. it burns right away! I'am on Keppra and maybe soon I won't need that med.(Dilantin)I have been on it since I was 17 and now I am 29 years. Well it will be nice if we not need no meds. right? alissa

My little boy was on Dilantin at one time in his life and it is my understanding that any rash should immediately be reported to your doctor. Doesn't matter if you've been on it for a while, you can still develop an allergic reaction to it. I would call the doctor ASAP and at least let him know of your symptoms. We had a scare with my son when he was on it and they were ready to put him in the hospital and stop the medication THAT day because he developed a rash. It turned out to be totally unrelated. Good Luck!!
