Hello everyone….New on here. I hope you are all doing well. I do have some questions.
I found out last summer that I was pregnant w/ baby #2. Well I had my the routine check (pap) and everything came back fine. However when I went in for my 6 week check up in July (from baby born in April) I was told that my pap was abnormal and come in for a biopsy. I did that and was told about 2 weeks later that I had Severe Dysphasia and that I would need to get the LEEP procedure done. I explained that I was moving and loosing my insurance. She explain to me that I would really need the procedure done in the next month. Now it is November and I still have not had anything done. And it’s looking like it will be after February before anything will get started. My ins. will not be active until the end of December. Is this bad? And how is it that I went from a normal pap to a horrible one in just a matter of about 1 yr???? How does that happen? And why was she making it an issue that I get it done in 1 month? And does that mean I have a good chance of it being REALLY bad by the time I get back to a dr?
Also, I know there appears to be no symptoms, but I have been cramping terribly the last few month. And I mean like WAY before my period is due? I have started spotting during intercourse (and it’s usually about a wk. before my period then) which I have NEVER done before. What’s the deal with that? Also I’m just hoping that a Dr. will just do a partical hysterectomy…and leaving the eggs…any chance of that? Then I wouldn’t have to worry so much about it. My mom and my little sister both had Cervical Cancer so I don’t want to take anymore chances. I have had 2 baby’s and my tubes are tied….so I wouldn’t see why not….?
Any ideas or help or ANYTHING anyone one has would be great!

Thanks,
La Donna!!

I personally would not wait because things can go from almost nothing to severe very quickly. I've seen some woman post stories that said it happened to them in 4 months

I do know not having insurance can be an aweful thing. I'm thankful mine is still in effect, but I will be losing it soon. Can you go to another clinic, like a planned parenthood? That's where I am going at the moment because I do not have a regular OBGYN that I like. They also can do ALOT to help out in the financial area.

Hi,

I know this can all be really scary, and not having insurance can make an already stressful situation so much worse! Have you talked to your doctor about maybe trying to set up a payment plan so you can have the procedure done? Do you maybe qualify for some sort of medical assistance until your insurance kicks in?

You've already waited 4 months, and I really don't think that you should put if off any longer than you have to. Worst case scenario, you say your insurance kicks in in December? Schedule the procedure for as soon as it is active! Do not wait until February!

If you had CIN I I would tell you to wait and see. Where it is CIN III and has been since July I wouldn't put it off any longer than you absolutely have to.

You really shouldn't ask for a partial hysterectomy. Aside from finding it difficult to find a doctor to do this on a patient so young, it will not neccessarily cure your problem. There are several women on this thread that will attest to that, although I can't speak from experience on that. From what I hear it can actually make things worse.

I had a normal pap in Feb 2005 and then became pregnant with #2, just like you. I found out in Nov 2005 (2 months into my pregnancy) that I had CIN III. My doctor told me that since I was pregnant they wouldn't do anything until after the baby was born. I had her in June, and at my 6 week follow up it was still CIN III (luckily, I was expecting it to be a lot worse). My doctor had me wait until October 4th to have the procedure just to be sure that my body had healed enough that it would be an easier recovery. I had the LEEP and a Cone Biopsy just to be sure it didn't spread elsewhere. I was lucky, it took care of all of it. I have to go back every 3 months for the next year, and every 6 months for 2 years after that. If all come back clear I'll be "cured". I'm trying to be optimistic, but this is my second occurance (I had CIN I in April 2000 that cleared on it's own).

Things can change so quickly. The symptoms you describe could be nothing, but they are a little troubling to me considering your diagnosis. I really urge you to get this done as soon as possible. You can always find a way to pay the bills later. This is your health, and you only can let things go so far before you can't fix it.

I'm sorry if anything I said scared you. I just really want you to know what you may be getting yourself into.

Please keep me posted on what you decide to do. If you have anymore questions I can try to answer them as best as I can, or there are many other women on here that can. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Hugs!!!!

I went through simular issues. I waited a long time for treatment even after cancer cells I was going to a naturopath it kept it from progressing. After 3 years i decided to get the leep. I asked my dr what she would do if she were me and she said she would have a histerectomy (sp) I had the leep though, I didnt want to lose my child baring organs even though i had 3 healthy kids. I was just an emotional attachment to being able to have babies. That was in 96 I have not had any other abnormal paps since. So far so good. But once you have it you are always in a higher risk catagory for getting it again. Thats why the doc said she would prefer a histerectomy. Also once you have cervical cancer you risk for breast cancer increases. So I hope it hasn't progressed to cancer cell.
I wish you the best outcome.
