I have been reading a lot of controversial information about the ingredients in the flu vaccination. I read that there is mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde, etc. I was wondering if anyone has had any adverse reactions to the vaccination. This is my first year with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy and was told I should get vaccinated. I heard the nasal flu mist is mercury free but I am unfamiliar with it. I was wondering if anyone here has taken the nasal flu mist. Any info would be appreciated since flu season is here! In the past I never got the flu shot.

Hey Nicm,
This was my second year of getting the flu shot and it was worse than last year. Where they injected it got really red and sore for a few days, and I also got the sniffles. My boyfriend got one too for the first time and he just had soreness. As far as all the things you are reading, I don't know what the fuss is. I have hbp and a history of SVTs and it didn't effect either. I would think with Myopathy you would want to prevent having the flu so I would definately get one. I have heard that the inhaler type is not as effective. I did notice last year that I didn't have to be on antibiotics once and usually I am on them at least twice in the winter.
After getting the shot, I would keep an eye on the site where they give you the shot and if it doesn't feel better in a few days then call your doctor. A few days of discomfort outwieght the chances or getting an nasty flu.
Good luck,
Lyl

In the past I have had some soreness.
BUT LAST year...I was barely able to move my right arm for a week even though I barely felt the shot when it was administered...but a day later )OWWW!
Several of the shots devised in the last several years were for flus OLDER than the current one, in fact the CDC judged the flu shot of 2 years ago as completely ineffective in 85% of the people who got it.
I will NOT be getting another, this vaccination program is a train wreck just WAITING to occur.
