View Full Version : Young female with heart problems?

Hi! I'm new here. I'm currently 31 years old. A little history....... Starting having sharp chest pains at the age of 10. Pains would only last a minute or two. Pain only occurs when taking a breath in. Had a Ecg done at that time. Doc said it was growing pains. Suffered with these chest pains throughout my teens with no other symptoms, just the pains.

When I became pregnant with my son when I was 24 , in my 6th month of pregnancy I had horrible palpatations. Wore the Holter for 7 days, went to cardiologist and had ultrasound. Said everything was fine except I had MVP which he said was causing the palpations. After my son was born palpatations decreased and hardly have any. No chest pains on every once in awhile.

When I was 29 I was having chest pains and palpatations and went to my regular doctor. ECG abnormal so he sent me to the ER. Blood work came back good, chest xray good, Still had abnormal ECG so I was sent to another cardiologist. This time I did the stress test with ultrasound, said everything was fine. Even said I did not in fact have MVP. Went last year when I was 30 to have another ECG by family doctor. Abnormal of course, it said Left Ventricular Hypertrophy. My Md said everything was fine.

Since then I still have occasional palpations, chest pain. However 2 weeks ago I started becoming short of breath of breif periods so I went back to cardiologist this week. Did the stress test, ultrasound and doppler test. Said I'm fine come back in 2 years. My ECG said Normal sinus rythm, Rightward axis, ST &T wave abnormal consider inferior ischemia. Doctor wrote on bottom non-specific

I have smoked for 15 years and just quit 1 week ago. Has anybody else gone through this?? Doctors telling you everything is fine, even if your having symptoms and so on?? Sometimes i feel like they are not telling me everything. AmI just paranoid? I am worried about my heart.

Thanks!
Courtney

I worry about this everyday. I have been told i have MVP, i do suffer alot of the symptoms of it but my last 3 echo's show no MVP. About 7 months ago i ended up in the ER 3 different times thinking i was having a heart attack (chest pain, left arm pain, jaw pain, nausea you name it i was having it) they said it was all anxiety. I have had every test under the sun done besides a cardic cath, they all say my heart is fine that it is anxiety and stress. I myself think they are wrong.........my choice is to have a cath done but im to scared of the risk to do it just incase my heart is fine. I am going back to the doctor after the first of the year and asking for more testing to be done. I have read WAY to many post talking about people have testing done then a few months having a heart attack. It really worrys me. No your not paranoid, keep on them dont let them tell you something that your body is telling you different. They dont live your life and only you can take charge of it!!!!! One more thing, my doctor did tell me if you are having chest pain and breathing in makes it worse.....then its not your heart and if you can move and change the pain then its not your heart.

Counrtney,

There are many herbal hoempathic remedies for such so called "non specific " heart conditions. You need to tell more about your other symptoms to help you find the right one.

My symptoms are occasional and sometimes they are worse then other times. Including heart palpatations, not a racing heart, the feeling that my heart skips beats, feels like I can't catch my breath the instant my heart is skipping beats. Chest pain occasional. A stabbing sensation towards the left side of my chest. Pain occurs only when inhaling and last less then 2 minutes. My fingers swell at night which they have always done. Periods of shortness of breath.

I do not have high blood pressure, my runs low. Blood work is good. I work out at least 3 times a week for the past 6 months. No symptons while working out. I'm 5'3" and 119lbs.

That is weird that you mention swelling. I also have problems with my hands and feet swelling but usually mine is in the morning but it does happen at nite.I have the flip flop feeling in my chest then i get really hot after that starts. I do get the racing heart if i eat alot of sugar i notice. I get chest pain sometimes its on the left side and sometimes on the right. I dont get what i guess is shortness of breath but sometimes i feel like i have to sigh alot and take really deep breaths. I do not have high blood pressure, i did a few years ago where my bottom number was in the 90's but it has been ok for the last few years runnin around 120/70. Im 33 and 5'3 about 124 pounds. I dont work out like i should. I also do have slightly high cholesterol. Have you ever talked to your doctor about a beta blocker?? I was put on metoprol about 5 years ago when my palps started back up again and it helped. I quit taking it about 2 years ago when i got pregnant with my daughter and havent started it again. My doctor gave me a new script of Toprol XL cause my palps are at it again so i think im going to go back on it, and i also take loranzapan as needed, it helps when the flipping starts.

Courtney I would go back to a Cardiologist. Try and see a different one if possible and tell them straight your fed up of being messed around and you want something done about your symptoms. Something is obviously going on because of your abnormal ECG.

Swelling of the legs can be related to a Heart condition, fluid, infection, water retention and varicose veins (inwardly or exterea).

Courtney,

Just to let you know you are not alone. I am soon to be 36 and this past July was in the ER twice for chest pain and lightheadedness. I have had everything but a cardiac cath and they have found nothing wrong with me. From what I have been told that if something was majorly wrong it would show in your blood pressure or on an EKG. You have had different doctors look at your results and some have different opinions on what is normal. I would ask more questions and keep asking until you get an answer that is right.
Me? I have been told I have anxiety and have been put on pills for high blood pressure and xanax for the anxiety. I have had my bouts but that and along with a therapist helps. This board has also helped me out tremendously. If you talked to me in July I wouldn't even leave the house because I was in such fear. I even had an SVT yesterday, but still try to forget about it. When my time comes, its going to come no matter if I have had many tests are not.

good luck,
lyl

Hello Courtney I'm 46 and I had a heart attack approx. 3 month ago. had blockage on the right side of my heart I thought it was the end of the world but things are getting better. 1 I thought that I was to health to have such problems. I'm in pretty good shape , I competed in body building competitions 3 years ago still have the same workout routine but I guess it can happen when you are least expected still pretty active hunting , softball , coaching little league football and baseball not a fanatic but I played sports all my life and went through college and then to double A baseball. So I guess you could say that I'm willing to share my experience with the little guys.

When I was 18 and sitting my A-level I began to have a number of dizzy spells and became quite exhausted, mentioned it to the Doc but just were put down to stress. Went to uni these became worse and I started to have black outs and chest pains thought little about it. Ended up leaving uni twice because of it. Offered anti depressants. Eventually moved home got a easy job but my health declined rapidly. Really bad chest pains became a daily occurance as did palpatations. Back and fourth to loads of cardiologists etc nothing but stress. Then I was diagnosed with ME.

I decided to go back to uni but the palpatations became unbearable as has the chest pain. I have about 10-15 episodes a day. I eventually scrapped the money together to see a private Cardiologist. At last I have been diagnosed with Superventricular Disobedient Tachycardia. Offered alsorts of treatment and will be having the op where they burn your nerves (sorry cannot remember the proper name). It has taken 4yrs but i have finally got there. If you really believe u have a problem then pay its well worth it:p

Good Luck

Does anyone seem to get the run around like I do?. I feel pretty good after my heart attack 3 mon ago but my cpk levels are elevated. I take plavix, metrepol I think that how you spell it and diovan asprin but my doc just keep sending me to check my blood sometimes I feel like he should be figuring whats causing it. After all I'm taking 2 new medicines now that metrepol and plavix. I'm 46 and active. Does anyone have any answers?:dizzy:  . Thinking very seriously about changing my cardiologist. Someone who seems concerned with my ailment. And not only that I hardly ever get what my results are.

Courtney,

Heart, breathing symptoms and the swelling of fingers at night could point to Cardiac Dropsy. Can you check this out? There is a homeopathic remedy that has been used very effectively in such situations. Digitalis 30c. You may like to considering trying a couple of doses.

Hope this helps
