I have an appojntment on Monday to get the depo provera shot, but my period ended about 2 weeks ago. I've been on it before, and I had to take it for the first time like the very next day after my period ended. Will this be a problem? If I get the injection 2 weeks after it stopped will it still be effective?
thank you

You might want to call your Dr's office first thing Monday before you go to the appointment and be sure they will still give it to you. Some doctors are particular about it. From what I understand (I was on it a few years ago) it's not that the shot will be less effective in the long run, but I believe they do it to be sure there isn't a possibility of being pregnant when you get it. Plus you may still ovulate the first month since you've waited 2 weeks and thus you could still get pregnant during the first few weeks of being on it.

The above poster is correct. They want to make sure your not pregnant before they give it to you. They're supposed to give you a pee test as well though.

They did mine within the first 5 days. and she told me they wouldnt do it any later than that. I was still worried. i havent had a period since and i told them that and they didnt even think about pregnancy and when i went back for another shot (that i didnt really want to do) they didnt even test me for pregnancy. i have taken 3 test which were all neg. I would wait if i were you. until your next period
