Hello, I was wondering what has been going on lately. I am a 35 y/o male diagnosed with sinus tach, taking Toprol XL 50 mgs to deal with that. For the past 3 weeks or so I get this strange flutter feeling a few times a day. No pain, although I do deal with muscular pain in my shoulder that runs into my pec, but that is something I've dealt with for years. I called my doc and he said not to worry. No explanation, just try not to let it worry you, it most likely is anxiety. That always seems to be his answer. Anyhow are these flutters that I have been having sound like PVC's? From threads that I have read I would make that judgment. My doc seems to not be concerned but how am I not to be?

Hi,
I know exactly what you're talking about and I get them too.
I have had irregular heart beats and sometimes rapid beats for over a year; my doctor prescribed toprol but I only took it a few times cuz I don't like taking meds. right now my pulse is 100 and I'm just sitting "relaxing"--
I just had a flutter a few minutes ago also.
I have been getting them for the last month, and haven't had them before except maybe once every great while. Now they're with me daily.
i've given up coffee, and trying to cut down on my sugar, but wonder what is causing it. It's very unsettling to say the least.
If anyone knows what this is or has had any experience please feel free to jump in and shed some light. I know doctor's are famous for just saying, don't worry --it's because they don't know what to do about it (except drugs), and that just adds more and different problems I feel.
Maybe it is anxiety, we live in a stressful world and most of us have to deal with stress on a daily basis. I think that could be a factor..
good luck, wish I could offer you some answers!

hey guys. It sounds like PVC's to me, but only a doctor can tell you for sure. I've had them for years. They feel like a flutter when they are minor and sometimes feel like an actual punch when theyre big. My doctor said not to worry also. Caffeine, stress and other stimulants can make mine worse; even decongestants can. I'd advise seeing a doc just to be sure.

I agree, some feel like a flutter, others feel just like someone is in your chest punching you from the inside. I liken it to feeling your baby kick when you are about 8 months pregnant - but in your chest! It is hard to believe these are harmless, but so far so good I guess. I have had them daily for a couple of months now, and still not sure why they started out of the blue. I can get them for no reason, but they also seem to come on stronger when I eat sugar, or when stressed.
I'm on toprol, it makes them less of a punch and more of a flutter, which I guess is a good thing.

I'm wondering how often you guys have them? Sometimes I don't have them for months, then they come back. Right now I'm having them pretty often during the day. I used to be able to get rid of them with exercise, but that doesn't seem to be working this time. Any suggestions for making them occur less?

Ediot - I, too, was diagnosed with sinus tach and put on beta blockers. I get the same sensations you get. I NEVER had these before I was on the beta blocker. Was your sinus tach constant, or intermittent? Mine is the worst when I get up in the morning. Then it slowly starts to come down. My doctor has no explanation. I just recently quit smoking so I cut my beta blocker dose in half. Pulse still high first thing in the morning and then is real low the rest of the day. And then there are these wonderful PVCs or whatever they are. I, too, was told not to worry about it. It's so annoying!
