my mam has just had a slight stoke, but she has lost her swallow because of this she hasnt eaten for a week, even fluids make her choke and come back up through her nose. is this common in a stoke and how long does it take to recover or what kind of help can help her to swallow again

First off all, you shouldn't be asking this question on a website. Get to a doctor or ER immediately, since you say she hasn't been eating for a week.

She needs medical care.

I agree with madfit. Your mother needs to be in the hospital IMMEDIATELY. I had a stroke in June and could tell you what happened to me but it is best to get off the computer and call 911. This is nothing to play with. I am lucky to be alive. lgs
