I slept about an hour last night...the usual amount I'm able to sleep anymore.

I've tried several brands of the OTC sleeping pills...the pills containing diphenhydramine HCl (Unisom, Simply Sleep, etc.) have absolutely no effect on me at all.

Does anyone know of any other alternatives?

i don't know if you'll read this since you posted a few months ago.. but ive also had insomnia since i was around 6. one of the few things that has worked is taking melatonin supplements. its a chemical that your brain is supposed to create to tell your body its time for sleep. therefore it gives you the needed amount. although it only worked for awhile it was still a relief to get some sleep at all. i agree that the OTC sleeping pills don't work-they just made me jittery. but this is a natural remedy i guess you could say... anyways good luck!
