Greetings, I am new to this forum and have not taken much time to read through the posts.

I started suffering from tinnitus since the end of June. I went to an ENT and he said the classic lines - you hae tinnitus, its not well understood what causes it and ther is no cure. You are just going to have to live with it. Great:mad: Well, I researched it a bunch and learned about the various stuff you can take to try and relieve the symptoms. I have been taking RingStop since July because it is available at the local health store. I also take zinc, magnesium, B multivitamins and fish oil. Can't really say any of this stuff has helped. I suffer from insomnia and also fell into depression.

Although it is said to avoid alcohol, I found that it helped reduce my symptoms. But, because of the insomnia, I decided to quit drinking and this may have contributed to my depression (that is another story). I first tried to deal with the depression by taking natural supplements and that is how I found L-tyrosine. It rids me of the tinnitus most of the time.

I have never seen L-tyrosine mentioned to help relieve tinnitus. Anyone ever experience this? Since I suffer from anxiety I also notice that the benzodiazepine drugs seem to help. Again, has anyone experienced this?

One last question. I have seen claims that most everyone will suffer from tinnitus at some time. So for most people it must eventually go away. I've never estimates for how long it lasts whenit is transient. Anyone have a clue?

Thanks,

Bob

Bob, do you suffer from unilateral or bilateral tinnitus (in one ear or in both)? Is it pulsatile?

I've heard (or read) that if when you take shower (or when there is water running near you) you don't hear tinnitus then it could go away.

I'm personally a bit sceptical about this theory.

My tinnitus is unilateral. It is true that when I take a shower I do not notice the tinnitus, but it certainly does not make it go away. The sound I hear is a high pitch, pure tone. The pitch is about the sound of crickets, but without the churping, so not, it is not pulsatile. Since I am dealing with serveral other issues right now, I am suspecting the tinnitus may be a result of anunderlying disorder. I started suffering from insomnia almost immediately. I had been drinking too much beer, probably a 6-pack a day at least for probably years. I never really kept track since I was functioning incredibly well. I stopped drinking and things got alot worse fast. I am now suffering from depression and anxiety which was probably triggerd by the tinnitus.

I think the benzodiazepine meds I have for anxiety make the tinnitus go away, its hard to tell with all the other changes I've gone through in the past few months. I tested very low for testosterone and am also on testosterone replacement therapy.

I am just a wreck lately.
