Hi, i am new to this forum. I know i am looking for answers that only god knows, but i want to prepare for whatever the outcome may be. My mom was diagnosed with satge 4 lung cancer in September after having a massive pleural effusion drained, she has been going for Chemo for the last few weeks. She says she is very tired and is battling to put on all the weight that she lost over the last few months. I am desperatly worried and my mom does not talk much about being sick, i don't know of she is just trying to protect us, she is still so young at 56. My dad si also taking strain as he and my mom have been together since they were teenagers, i am so sad that my mom may not see my two samll babies grow up.

I would also like to know if anyone can answer this question for me, the doc said that the lung cancer had metastised from somewhere else but they cannot say whre, Is this normal ??? At the moment they say that she just has lung cancer, but if it came from somewhere else why is it still not there ?? hope my question makes sense

I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's diagnosis. It must be very hard for your family if your mother chooses not to talk about her illness, especially as there is uncertainty about metastasis.

I don't know the answers to your questions but I am glad you have found this forum, wherein you'll find many supportive, caring people who will share their knowledge and answer if they are able.

Your family will be in my prayers.

Sorry to hear about your mother. I recently found out my father has lung cancer; its so recent that we are not even sure what stage he is yet. I don't have any words of wisdom but I also have young children and I"m not ready to let my father go either so if you need to talk; I'm here!

Hi Ellengrace

thanks so much for the kind words, my prayers are also with you. I did speak to my mom today and she sounded quite positive even though she was tired from the big dose of chemo she has on monday, i just hope she is not to ill from the chemo side effects for our seaside holiday in three weeks time.

hi dlg

also sorry to hear about your dad, i hope that the cancer is not too far, We always take our parents for granted and think they will be with us forever, I cannot believe that my mom has cancer, i feel like this whole thing is surreal and will dissapper. My little girls is only 7 months and my boy, 2 years old. I really want them to get to know their granny who absaloutly loves all her grand children.

I think this forum is great and i am sure we will both get alot of information from here for our parents, hng in there and stay positive !!!

I'm in the same position as you, my father was also diagnosed in September with Stage 4 NSCLC. Though I don't think his has met'd from somewhere else. I too have been looking EVERYWHERE to find an answer to my virtually unanswerable question...how long? I'm so sorry you have to go through this...it's so hard to deal with. I still don't have an answer so I definitely can't answer your question but I wanted to offer my support. Big hugs and lots of prayers for you and your family.

Hi Ayre

Thanks for the reply, sorry to hear about your dad. Is he having treatment, if so how is it going. My mom is taking big strain with the chemo, she is always tired and has lost her appetite completely. I am so looking forward to the december holidays, we are all going to the seaside with the whole family and at least my mom will have a break from the treatment.

I suppose we just have to take day by day and stay as positive as possible, good luck with your dad and keep me posted on his progress
