View Full Version : BSGI...anyone had one?

i had a mammogram today to diagnose a 1 cm x 1 cm lump in my left breast. i am 25 years old with a family history of breast cancer. i was able to speak with the radiologist immediately afterwards, and she said in younger women breast tissue is dense, which can make it difficult to detect any masses. she couldn't see anything on my films, but she was able to feel the lump. she recommended a new procedure called "breast-specific gamma imaging" (or BSGI - <a href="http://www.dilon.com/bsgi.php">). it's not covered by most medical insurances, so i'm sure it won't be covered with mine (i've been much less than thrilled with the coverage i have thru my job). i was wondering if anyone has had a BSGI and can tell me about what it costs. i'm wondering if it might be a better idea to ask about biopsying the lump and skipping the BSGI...it seems to me that if the BSGI comes back positive, i'll still have to have the biopsy anyway, in which case the BSGI would have been an unneccesary (and expensive) step.

thanks for your help!
