Hi everyone
I have been diagnosed with PSVT and am considering an ablation. I wondered if anyone could chime in about their SUCCESSFUL experience. I am a little nervous about doing it, so I would prefer not to hear any negative stories. (sorry) Also, is there prep stuff before the procedure and what were your instructions after it was over? I am a pretty active person and want to know if you were restricted in terms of your exercise for any amount of time. How did the doctor follow up after the procedure? Thanks in advance for any information you pass my way.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I haven't had one, but I have heard that there is only an 80% success rate.
Its a cardiac cath procedure they give you drugs to make you have an episode and then try to pin point where the signal probelm is. They then "burn" a part of the node that is causing the issue. My episodes are irritating, but not life changing enough to have the procedure done. I have decided to wait. The cardiac cath and being immobile for 6 hours scares me.

lylone....well here is a positive experience for you. I had an ablation for PSVT and atrial tachycardia. They were able to successfully ablate the AVNRT (which caused the SVT). Unfortunately they were unable to ablate the area causing the atrial tachycardia. It has only been a few months since my ablation so I cant tell ya how long it will last, hopefully forever. One of my two cardiologists had SVT himself and had it successfully ablated. As for the procedure there is no prep other than they need you off any heart meds like beta blockers. Usually they let you go home the day of the procedure, but sometimes they keep you. You have to lay flat for usually 4 hours. They tell ya to keep low for a few days but then can slowly increase activities. Followed up with my cardiologist in a month where they did a EKG. Oh and they put ya to sleep for this but they keep you lightly sedated so they can try to elicit this SVT, but typically you are pretty "stoned" and if you get uncomfortable they usually give ya more meds. :) In the long run if you can get rid of your arrhythmias it will be totally worth it. Good luck
