View Full Version : Concerta and loss of appetite

Hello,

I was recently switched to Concerta (36 mg per day) for my ADD (primarily inattentive). I had previously been on Ritalin SR.

I have very little appetite - I have been on the Concerta for 3 weeks now. Most days I am taking in only around 600 calories. I literally 'forget' to eat - no hunger at all and when I do try to eat it's just not appealing.

I am currently at a normal weight so it's not like I need to lose any weight. The Concerta has been excellent in terms of helping me focus, etc. so I am hesitant to go back to the Ritalin. But I am concerned about whether my appetite will come back.

Has anyone had a similar reaction to Concerta and did the symptom subside as you were on the medication for longer?

Thanks!

It did subside for me but, then, very little interferes with my appetite.

If you can't make yourself eat, try taking in more calories in liquid form - smoothies, fruit juice, milk (even milk shakes), etc.

Loss of appetite is one of the most common side effects of all stimulants, I've had the same side effects with everything and still do, just remember to keep yourself hydrated and make sure you have enough vitamins, thats where it can get bad. I wouldn't worry about it though, as long as your healthy, but if you notice an unhealthy weight loss or you have dizzy spells or other side effects of dehydration, immediatly consult your doctor on these problems, the stimulants can sometimes worsen the side effects or speed up the process of dehydration.
