i caught a bad cold, sore throat, cough etc... almost 2 weeks ago now and went to the doctors about 4 days into it as i started coughing up thick yellow sputem (also nose mucus was yellow) had chest checked and doctor said it was clear, glands in neck were slightly swollen but was told just have all the symptoms of a common cold. i took sudofed for around 1 week, but now i seem to be left with the cough side of things and a phlymy feeling in back of throat. sometimes bring up thick yellow sputem still. my nose is still a little mucusy, now when i blow it , it sometimes has little bits of blood and little black bits also??? my cough seems to be calming down a little but when i do cough its sometimes hard to catch my breath and i cant always bring stuff up. i do have asthma. how long should this go on for???

The common cold can least a good 2 weeks unfortunately. With a common cold a runny nose is clear fluid. Sounds like what you experience is a sinus infection...any time the mucus is discolored..green or yellow its the sign of an infection. I have gotten those a lot in the past and my doctor always prescribed me Amoxycillin or some new drug (can't remember the name of it). Amoxy you take for 10 days. This newer drug is for like 3 days. Works great. I had to get it cuz I couldn't breathe through my nose at all no matter what I tried. With the common cold there is no cure so you just have to wait it out and try the OTC cold tables or stuff like Nyquil.
