View Full Version : Personal question for women who have had SI Injection

I am scheduled for an SI Injection on Tuesday. I did not realize when I scheduled it that I am due (and all signs are pointing) for my period by then. I'm not sure of the actual procedure but I think it might be "embarrassing?" (for lack of a better term) enough without the added stress of dealing with the menstrual flow.

I'm asking women who have been through the procedure (or one like it) ... do you think I should re-schedule?

Dear Katnipped, I know exactly what you mean! Every time I am scheduled for one of these procedures, I am checking my calendar to see what time of the month it is! I just had SI injections and did not have my "monthly," but with other injections I have. What I do is just ask to use the restroom right before they put the IV in, so I know I am prepared. I think you will do fine-if you are in a lot of pain, you don't want to postpone too long. Good luck, Kera

Another question ... what did you have an IV for? I don't believe they are putting me out. The instruction sheet said I would be able to drive myself home.... Also, how long does the procedure last?

Hi
I have only had my Facet joints injected an was told to leave my knickers on for the procedure.
I think you have to be bare to have the SI joints done so maybe sanitary wear thet you insert would be fine.
If you put the procedure off it would be a shame.

Can i ask what symptoms you are experiencing with your SI joints as the Facet injections didnt work an i am thinking the SI injections are the next step.

Best wishes

At the place I had the injections done it is their policy to put an iv in, whether you are having sedation or not. They would always ask me if I wanted sedation or not. I always had a little bit, not enough to knock me out, just make me comfortable. For the SI shot, your underwear are still on, the doctor just has to roll it down a bit, since the SI joint is low down. Kera

Thanks for the information sherry1. My symptoms are intermittent but can include all of the following .... electrical "jolt" type sensations between my tailbone and spine on the left-hand side, tightness through the gluteal muscle on the left side, tingling/numbness at the bottom of my left heel, tingling alongside the left side of my foot, tingling on top of my left foot in a V between my biggest/littlest toe. Generally speaking, sitting and laying down (especially on my back and left side) are very uncomfortable so I get very tired as the day wears on!

Ohhhh thank you kera4! I sure hope they do it that way (with the underwear on). That will certainly help my dilemma. Is the shot that painful that you need sedation? He said I would receive a numbing agent first (described it as similar to what it feels like the dentist uses to numb your gums before a filling).

The instructions also said to not eat 2 hours prior but reading through some of the posts on this forum it looks like some people aren't allowed to eat / drink for much longer period of time beforehand...???

I have had the SI shots both ways, with sedation and without. They are not too bad without sedation, it is like a deep aching feeling going in. They only gave me a small amount of sedation that wore off by the time I left the surgery center, the times I had sedation. Either way, it is not bad. I was told not to eat 4 hours before the procedure-I would think 2 hours would be fine. Take care, Kera
