Has anyone here heard of having terrible pain in upper neck and back when drinking very cold drinks like milk shakes or drinks that have crushed ice in them ? I have been having upper back and neck pain for almost 2 years now.
I am on Long Term Disability through my old job and have been seeing several different doctors about this pain. Seems nobody knows whats going on.The pain with the cold drinks is not the only pain i have to deal with. I hurt all the time in these areas. I cannot drive anywhere for longer than 30 minutes ot sit in a chair for very long without it hurting.
I finally had to apply for Social Secuirty Disability about 3 months ago. They are sending me to a Orthopedic doctor which i have already been to, but i am going Monday and see what they have to say.
I am just so frustrated about all this pain i am having.
Thanks so much for any advise you have.

Hi KC - I have not heard of cold causing such pain. You have been to several docs but have you had an MRIU or any type of scan? Even an xray would be helpful? I would insist, if necessary, on an MRI. Enough time has passed and anything that causes you to be more disabled ought to be fully investigated. Sorry I can't be of more help. Suzy-Q

Thanks for such a quick reply !! Yes i have had xrays from a Chiropractor and he said i had several pinched nerves. So i seen him for seven weeks and my pain gotten worst every visit i was there.
Then i went to a neurologist and had a Thoratic and Cervical MRI and it only showed i have a non cancerous cyst in my lower back on the right side.
They said they did not think that was causing all this pain i am in and the only medician the perscribed to me was Zanaflex which just made me sleep better. It did not help with the pain.
All these different doctors i have been to would not give me anything for pain.
I am gonna ask this Orthopedic doctor monday can he perscribe me some pain medician. But how can i really get this doctor to listen to me and give me something for this terrible pain i am in and find out whats going on with me.
I am also depressed with all this pain and the fact that i cannot work anymore.
Thanks again !!
KC
KC,
can you check if this is caused by Rheumatism that is localised to your back? There is a type of Rheumatism that is worse cold and sitting. If that is the case, you may like to try a couple of doses of Rhus Tox 30c which works well for such Rheumatsim. Hope this helps

Hi KC,
Sorry you're in such pain. I'm gonna state the obvious: if the chiropractic visits have made you worse, he may be doing you permanent damage. I would urge you not to go back, but to find out what's really going on from a real doctor. Chiropractors are not doctors, in spite of what they call themselves. You probably already reached that conclusion, but I just wanted to confirm it for you.
Some chiropractors are great and have helped lots of people, but many have done more harm than good.
I hope the ortho doctor on Monday listens to you and is able to help. You asked how you can get them to listen to you. Some doctors listen better than others, of course, and there's nothing you can do about that, but my opinion is that if the doctor sees you just wanting meds, he won't take you as seriously. If he sees you wanting to really get to the root of the problem, but also wanting some pain relief while finding it out, he'll take you more seriously. I would focus most of your time with him on describing your symptoms and emphasizing that you want a cure, not a bandaid. Then ask at the end if he can do anything to lessen your pain while you wait for whatever tests he wants done.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
Blessings,
Emily

In a post i put here earlier about going to the Orthopedic doctor tomorrow for upper back pain and pain in neck. Well the Social Secruity Disability people are paying for this visit and in my booklet they sent to me in the mail with a letter i have to take with me tomorrow, it says that this doctor cannot perscribe me anything for pain. Why is this happening ? I have been in this terrible pain for almost 2 years now. If they don't perscribe me something for pain i will go to the emergency room, i bet they will give me a shot or something.
Thanks for all the advise i have gotten so far on here !
