not much you can do to lose belly fat, other than watch what you eat...if you eat low calories daily, and along with general exercise.
treadmill/elliptcals/bike riding, or any type of cardio exercise will help, belly fat is usally the last to go but it will go if you just watch your claorie intake.
I know for me it took alomst a year and I EXERCISED EVERYDAY 6 DAYS A WEEK..BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS WATCH WHAT YOU EAT AND HOW MUCH.
As for as what to eat, well there many many choices, but just choose the right good healthy foods that are good for you nutrition wise and bascily count those calories.
if you need to lose over 40-50 lbs then count them caorires on a daily base...lower them to like 1200- 1400-1500 daily.
you should start loseing.
AFTER YOU GET TO YOUR WEIGHT GOAL THEN BY THEN YOU SHOULD BE USE TO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU AND KEEP EATING THIS WAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, BUT ONLY AFTER YOUR ON YOUR DAILY MANTANCE.
no amout of sit-ups will help you believe me.

Crunches do help some, but they are not the cure. I've found they mostly stengthen your core, which is a good thing, but they don't so much flatten you out always. I've found doing all my exercises while keeping belly button pulled in and my abs taught helps. This constantly works your abs so you don't need to spend as much time on crunches. It also avoids the build up of muscle memory in your abs. Also, as I noted in another post, eating much smaller portions helps. If you eat three bigger meals in a day, they just kinda sit there till they get processed, pushing your tummy out. In addition, there are many other types of ab exercises other than crunches. Try lying flat on your back and holding your feet just barely above the ground. Or try getting on your stomach, and holding yourself up and flat on your toes and elbows, keeping forearms on the ground. Hold in your stomach while doing this.
