I have been having sinus issues for years but this year they are constant....stuffiness, headaches, ear congestion (this is new for me). I am flying at the end of December and need some advice on what I can do now to get my sinuses in shape. Most likely I will take mucinex before I fly. I can use a saline spray, too plus take vitamin C...etc.

Would it be worth getting a neti pot? What other ideas do you have? Thanks in advance!

Bad sinus infections are difficult to knock out without the aid of antibiotics. I'd suggest a visit to the doctor.

Thanks....

I don't necessarily think I have a sinus infection, just very touchy sinuses and lots of allergies....I don't have a lot of drainage and I have days where I feel semi-ok....

Wondered what I could do to help cleanse...

This will help if your ear pressure is caused by excess wax buildup. However, if the ear pressure is sinus related, it won't.

Take sudaphed or another decongestant as well as the Mucinex. And flying is the one instance where I use Afrin Nose spray. My doctor told me to use the Afrin 30 minutes before take-off.

Thanks, Sneezy.....that is very helpful. Since I take blood pressure meds, I'll plan to do that, but I'll call my regular doctor first to make sure it's ok

Sudaphed isn't go for high blood pressure if I recall. But some newer decogestants are. And the Afrin should be okay. But yes, check with your doctor.

Joy

There is a Coricidan HP for people on blood pressure meds, but I get a strong reaction to it.

Decongestants like Afrin I believe are also a no no on blood pressure meds, but it actually drives my BP down not up so my doc lets me use it sparingly.

I won't advise you, but in my own situation, if I think a questionable med will be of great value, I will try it in a controlled environment like my home to determine its effect on me personally before deciding to use it or not.

The best advice is to try things first before you get on the plane. And have a safe trip.
