View Full Version : Comparison of Vestibular issues and Head trama

I was watching the Discovery Channel this past week. I watched two stories that discussed head trama victims retraining their brains to rewire balance/eye function.

One man had been hit in the head with a falling ladder. Due to the impact to his brain, he had balance issues, and was sent to VRT/PT to work on improving his balance.

One woman was in a bob sled accident (she was on the olympic team)...and they wired electrodes to her brain so that she could control a video game by using her brain (retraining function).

I found this very interesting...because I tell my family it feels as though I have brain damage.

Any thoughts?

Hi Charlotte,

I think an injury to your central system weather it is a blow to the head or caused by a virus is an injury regardless of how it happened so yes I think it is very similar. I do however, think there are different degrees to the severity of the injury and believe that the body has an amazing ability to repair itself in most cases. The problem unfortunately is how long it takes and how crazy it makes us feel.

I've been sick for just about 2 years now with this stuff, but along the way I've found that symptoms halted or reduced and hope that they continue to do so with time. A good book I read was written by Dr. Andrew Weil called Spontaneous Healing. You can do a search on it. It talks exactly about the body's ability to heal itself and has helped me through this process many times when I was/am at my lowest.

Take care...feel better....Gloria

Gloria...

Prior to posting on this site I read many of your posts. I have to say, you are such a positive spirit. You are so right....even in these head trama cases..the body often heals itself. In addition, even though it is easy to get "down"...keeping your spirits high, and yourself motivated...helps in the healing.

I just think calling this a virus gives many the wrong impression...to me it is very similar to head trama....:dizzy:
